Turn signal issues
My turn signal just cut out on me. My hazards work but thats it. If I try the signals they just stay solid. Does this have to do with the relay?

Some food for thought: the turn signals use the lamps for ground. The voltage is applied to the blinker unit, and the current flows through it to the bulbs, then to ground at the bulbs. If all of the correct filaments illuminate, the problem is likely the blinker. You might carefully assure yourself that the correct filaments illuminate. Does this problem occur on both sides? Does the indicator on the dash illuminate as well? Consider the flasher unit first. Ray

Re: Turn signal issues
I have the same problem with my '96 S-10. I know I need to replace the flasher unit. I have searched the threads here and have found a couple other threads with people asking about how to locate the flasher unit, but no replies telling where it's at. Can anyone help? I'd really rather not pay someone else to replace it for me if I don't have to, but I don't know where it is and I can't find it. Part of the problem too is that if I can't find it, I don't know for sure which replacement part to buy (there are at least two possiblities).
Thanks so much for any help. |

Re: Turn signal issues
sounds like the multi function switch(turn signal switch) is shorted, move the hazard button while you have the turn signals on and see if that makes them work, if it does, there is your problem

Re: Turn signal issues
Actually, I had my mechanic change the flasher and that WAS the problem. I had to have him replace it because NO ONE WILL POST WHERE IT IS!!!!!
Thanks anyway |

I also have a 96 S10. I went to NAPA, told them my year and model (96 S10 LS Ext Cab 4.3L) and they sold me a flasher for $2.98. Also like you, I had a difficult time locating the relay. But, I did finally find it... It's directly below the radio package. Gotta take down the driver's side pedal covers and the the panel above that (takes a #30 Torx tip). I also loosened the passenger side heater box cover as it will hold the middle panel from coming down enough to access the flasher units. After you drop the middle panel down a little, you'll see the two silver canisters relays. In my truck, the turn signal relay was the canister located on the right hand side. It'll pull straight out (with a little wiggling) and the replacement goes in similarly. |
