Just bought 2003 Silverado 1500 LS
Hi all,
I just bought my 2003 Silverado 1500 LS for $35,560 cdn (taxes included). I'm in love. This truck is extremely quiet and smooth, the LS option package gives me just about everything I want. I ended up buying an extended warranty for $2000 cdn, 4yrs / 120,000km, but looking back I wish I didn't do it. This is where GM makes it's money. Here in Canada new vehicles have to have Daytime Running Lights. On my light switch, I have three settings AUTO, PARKING & HEADLAMPS. I cannot turn my lights off. I'm curious if the difference between the US and CANADA trucks is just the headlamp switch. Can any Americans tell me if they're headlamp switch moves to the OFF position? Does it stay there? Does it turn off all the lamps with the key in the ACCESSORY position? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. |

Congratulations on your purchase! Everything you mentioned sounds the same as here.

The headlight switch won't cut off the headlights at night, but on mine you can press the dome override button a few times in a row and they will only come on with the switch.

Re: Just bought 2003 Silverado 1500 LS
Congrats on the new truck I got my 2003 LS Shortbed Reg cab last week. My headlamp switch does move to the off position, but once you let go it springs back to the auto position.

Great!!
Thanks for the replies! So on the American models the headlamp switch still springs back to the automatic position. Ok, so far they are the same. I've noticed the green light next to auto, sometimes its on, others its off. I haven't yet spent the time to determine what its telling me. If I understand you correctly, all you do is move the switch to off and it will spring back to the auto postion but with the auto feature turned off. But this doesn't work for lights at night? I don't understand why the switch just doesn't stay in the off position at night, but I'm going to go play with my light switch and see if I can figure it out. For who ever it was who posted it, pressing in the interior lamp button several times repeatly does nothing. Thanks for all the reply's though! |

Ok...
The green lamp next to the AUTO position comes on when my automatic headlamp sensor determines the head lights should be on. It goes out when it determines the Daytime Running Lights should be on instead. The OFF position does absolutely nothing except spring back to the AUTO position, regardless if the Head lights or if the Daytime Running Lights are on. The little light next to the OFF position never illuminates. From what "ridinhi13" tells me, I assume there is a minor difference in functionality between American and Canadian Head Lamp switches. I wonder if I just need an American switch or if the difference is controlled completely by the computer. Any replies would be appreciated. |

damn that suckes i does sound like there is a diff from canada and US. I didnt notice this switch thing untill i was behind someone and i messed with the switch. cuz the lights only turn on during the day when the car is in drive. the switch also works this way at night ... if i turn the switch to the off possition it will spring back to the auto possition but the green light will turn on or off i dont recall but the headlights will turn off.

Re: Just bought 2003 Silverado 1500 LS
Same in the USA. Just press down one notch on the parking brake and the headlights will remain off. One notch does not apply any braking. This came from a GM mechanic. But it is true that running headlights in the day time do prevent accidents.
