85 Gt-s

I gotta question here. I was more into the Supras, but I was short on cash, and I found an 85 Celica in decent condition for about a grand, so i invested in it. I wanted to know some of the specs on it as far as HP and its stock quarter mile time. Also, since I just got into Celicas what are some beginning modifications (suspension, exhaust, intake, etc.) any help I'd appreciate.

thats what i have. its a 2.4L SOHC (ill admit it guys) 4 cylinder. 116 HP @4800 RPMs and 140 ft lbs torque @2800 RPMs. (getting this info from a site, doesnt sound right with the rpm ratings) 9.3:1 compression ratio. my first suggestion would be a decent ignition system. NGK is my personal favorite. i am getting rid of my celica engine for a supra engine and have a badass exhaust system i could sell you. fucker's loud. all custom. custom drilled header holes. very nice. then, if your A/C doesnt work, i would suggest taking the compressor off. 1) you lose 50 lbs. 2) you have a place for a cool air intake. theres some ideas for starts.

thanx a lot man... I got mine a few days ago, its got a little import exhaust and its pretty loud for what I expected. I think the car is 116hp@5800 rpms, but that may be off, not too sureI heard of taking out the compressor, but I was unsure of what it meant/how to do it. Do you think you could explain what you mean (like where the compressor is, Im dumb, lol) I also heard of taking the intake cover out or something. What are they talkin about? Im just starting to "hot rod" this thing.

85 gt-s intake

Hey guys, my friend just got an 85 gt-s celica and cuz im his best bud im gonna try to make it faster. The first thing i would do to make it fast is put some cold air intake on it. AEM is my favorite, but K&N is just fine... the only problem is that i can only find stuff for post 2000 year cars. What would you guys do for inake or exhaust?

ok kids, this is for both of you. i dont believe there are any aftermarket intakes for this car. so ya build it yourself. and here's how. your a/c condenser is located under your intake manifold. chances are there is a belt hooked up to it. ask around, have someone check, to see if the condenser works. if it doesnt, take it off. you are removing 40-ish lbs from your engine bay. in the forward left area of the engine bay is a black, round thingy with the intake hose going into it. remove. it's useless just rip all of it out. then disconnect the air intake hose from the throttle body, leaving the filter and all wiring still connected. rest the end of the filter on the black suspension bar under the engine bay and reconnect the intake hose. voila, makeshift cool air intake. trust me kids, it DOES make a difference. i still have that deep breathing exhaust system, if any of you guys want to buy it. later

So basically your resting the intake so its more beneath the car than inside the engine bay? Cuz I heard if you find a cool air intake for this car that it wont work well because it'd heat up too fast. But by doing this to the intake, is there any chance that it could come loose or slip off the suspension bar?

it wont if its tightened enough. hell if u want to be sure, keep a bolt tied into the AFM, and use wire or something to string it over to where the filter used to be. But ill tell ya, my motor mounts suck so my engine jumps all over the place and my intake still hasnt gone anywhere. strictly opinion, but this is a worthwhile mod.

Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate the help. I'll be looking into this as soon as I have more than five seconds away from work or school

haha nice. The only day off work I get is the set day my band practices. If I get one day off other than that, its gonna be put towards my car. Good luck on your engine swap.
