86' Accord Reverse Problems

My mom has an 86' Accord LXi 5 Speed. Almost every time she tries to put it in reverse the tranny makes a unpleasant grinding noise. Usually what she does when this happens is she turns off the car, puts it in reverse, then starts it back up again. Occasionally the car will go into reverse like it supposed to. She's not concerned about this, but I am and I figured what's the harm in asking.

Any ideas?

Thanks

i had the same problem. just put the car into 3rd gear, then slowly pull it into reverse. it should eliminate the problem.

I eventually replaced my clutch and now the problem is nonexistent.

Re: 86' Accord Reverse Problems

Check the trans fluid level

Always shift into 1st before reverse or let the clutch out in neutral then clutch in & shift to reverse.

The clutch may be goin' bad.
