Comp speaker set-up always changes...

On my computer I have 4 speakers, and 1 subwoofer. In the speaker settings part of My Computer, I change it to 5.1 surround, but everytime I log off of my username then get back on, it goes back to Desktop Stereo Speakers, which turns off the 2 side speakers. Is there any way to keep it as 5.1?

Ok first, do you have a sound card? If you do have one, Soundblaster perhaps, set it up with the sound card utilities. Second, you have a 4.1 speaker system, 5.1 is not needed.

I changed it with the sound card, and it doesnt change back anymore. The options given for speaker set up dont include 4.1 . Surround sound (5 speakers) and quadraphonic are the only other options similar to 4.1.

Your speaker system is a quadraphonic system. Basically it should plug into the two 1/8 of an inch jack at the back of your sound card.

Your speaker system actually have an inbuilt pcb (they all do actually) which will automatically differentiate between the different sound frequencies and play it accordingly to the appropriate speakers. So its all hardware dependent not software.

Computer speakers are weak! yea some sound damn good for what they are, but dont compare to my home theater set-up. All I did was connect sound card output to an input on my receiver. 2 120watt 12" subs along with 8 satelites speakers (2 left channels - 2 center channels - 2 right channels for the front & 1 left & 1 right channel surround sound)
