Can someone please tell me how to remove my rear speakers from my 98 Maxima? I tried to pry the grill off, but it doesn't move. I tried to pry the plastic molding around the grill off, but it doesn't move. I can see 4 screws from inside the trunk and it seems like they have to be removed from the top.

they do have to be removed from the top man, have to take out the back seat and then take out the grey carpeting in the back window. it sounds complicated, but its pretty easy. jus pull the lil plastic clip that is under ur back seat and the bottom part will come out. then jus take out the screws for the seat. watch urself on that metal peice between the seat and the trunk, i managed to cut the shit outta myself on mine when i took that lil rubber thing off of it. you should jus be able to pull the carpeting out then, or maybe jus slide ur hand up under it and get the speaker out

Hey thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. Couple of questions.... 1. Do I have to remove the entire seat? Send some more details if you have done this before. Is the carpeting glued on? 2. I can see from the trunk that there are screws attached to the speakers, how can I "slide my hand and get them out"? 3. Do you know what size rear speakers the 98 Maxima has? Thanks once again for your help..... |

I've done it over a year ago, so I don't have the details fresh in my mind, but you will have to take out the rear seats and the plastic molding part where the top of each seatbelt is. then if you have a 3rd brake light remove that, and then that deck and you'll see the screws for the speakers and we be able to remove them. I believe they are 6.5" ?

On my 1991 Max, the amp sat on the side and I replaced the stock paper cones with Sony Xplode 6x9's. Not much work at all - once I was able to get in the trunk.
For those of you who have pulled the rear speakers on Gen 4's: 1) Did you put new speakers and attach them to those funky Bose amps or 2) replace the entire speaker assembly? |
