AF - A little Bit boring?

Just wondering if anyone else on ehre was finding AF a little boring lately in the model forum? It's just the same model being built most of the time, not much is very interesting and not much goes into alot of them. If you want to see some real killer models aswell as model skills goto the Layitlow model forum! There is heaps of really nice models being built on there and none are the same. Check it out at: The Lay it low model forums

I'm finding AF really boring again

i know what ya mean, but it is summer time kinda, i never feel all that willing to spend the sunny days making models would rather be cruising in my car and drinking in the pub.
come winter tho im gonna be making loads and loads of em, so lets wait for a bit of cold weather to keep people inside and hopefully by then we will have a new server so things can return to become a bit better

Yes not a lot of interesting stuff lately.
But why not build something interesting yourself!
IMHO that forum you linked to does not compare to AF at all.

P.S. is it just me or do others find those "desi ganksta" things annoying.

How is this forum boring? There are many types of cars here, from Rally cars, Nascar and street cars to lowriders and such. That site has nothing but lowriders and lowrider bicycles. hmmmm...mabye we should change the vernacular in which we type to mix it up, yo! *sigh* To each his own I suppose, but don't say this forum is boring, then direct us to a pretty much single subject site. The models there do look well done, but there is no variety.

AF has variety? I don't see much variety in mainly seeing just Nissans, Hondas & Ferraris. At least LIL modellers put something more into their models, notice how many have adjustable suspension or even working suspension, cut doors and custom hinged boots etc etc with really nice paint jobs?
Don't like lowriders then just dont goto LIL. I provided that link so people could check it out, I just find that site more interesting then this one. AF has too many useless features now, like it takes me 2 minutes to load the forum page, the server is always busy, there isn't a very big spread of people who respect all types of cars either
Look in the gallery and how many Skylines and Supras, typical 'tuner' cars like that are in there? Shitloads thats how many.
Layitlow mainly has lowrider models, because surprise surprise it's a lowrider site.
"Mabye we should change the vernacular in which we type to mix it up, yo!" All I have to say to that stupid remark is at least Lowriding has an interesting and in depth, meaningful culture and lifestyle behind it.

Only advantage I see in AF model forums over Lay it lows is that we have more smilies here at AF

I agree wholeheartedly with what Phil just said, and off course, this blistering hot summer is also one of the main reasons why many people spend a bit of time off their desks, to enjoy themselves.

Luckily, winter is coming soon .

I m pretty sure there are actually some awesome , killer models being built here, but in my case, I m just not putting them on anymore, not making any progress threads anymore, because of the server, which doesn't allow pic uploading anymore...

hopefully that will come to an end?

as for being boring, hell no, where else can you see this amount of skilled and talented builders, ready to help you out on every occasion?

As for the link you posted...

and , to reply to RR's ps, yes I do, please , if you want to have them, make it smaller...

yeah i would agree about the comment that theres too many skylines, 350z's, civics and other jap cars, but if thats what people like building, then fair enough. Im into le mans cars and would love to see more of them built around here, but the kits are not as common as the jap cars so you dont see them as much.
But simple solution- if layitlow is better in your opinion, go to that site rather than slagging off the people who enjoy AF.

hey!

I think AF is a great site! True, thier are lots of ricers and racers but the site you link to is only lowriders. I have nothing against lowriders, one of my dream cars would be an 86 Monte Carlo with switches, but I'm also interested in ricers, racers, whatever. Trucks are my thing really. AF is good to me- Your site is one track, nothing but the same type of cars. I must disagree with you purpula delujo!

Re: Re: AF - A little Bit boring?

Yeah, you're kind of right Purpura Delujo, the LIL guys build a whole lot of different types of models. Trouble is they end up looking the same to me - tasteless!! Why is an Aussie into that jive talking low rider stuff anyway?

True the server situation here at AF is dire at the moment but you get what you pay for!

I don't think that Af is boring
It's right that it's often the same cars that are built. I agree with you on that point. But it's the same case in shows/contests , it's always the same cars shown. And it's like this in the rest of the world.
Don't be angry because some kits are popular.

There are some styles actually very popular in real life: rally, tuning, drifting, ... and many others.
And off course, it affects modeling.
It's why you'll see tons of Suby, Acuras, and Skylines here on AF.
AF is very generalistic and then are his threads.

Like you, those styles are not really what I like.
I like:
1st) old aircooled Vw's
2nd) all modern VW's
I don't see often threads here with old vw's. I'm the only one with a thread about a Karmann Ghia and I continue browsing AF everyday.
I have my favourite forum and it's www.flat4ever.com. It's only about aircooled vw's. That's not a reason for me to criticise AF.

Some people have other interests. And they find it on other forums. You browse 'The Lay it low forum' because you like that style. So don't criticise AF.

Take AF for all the tips and techniques it can give. You'll never see on other forums such Faq's, How to's, ...

One last thing: remember that the upload function is unavailable. Some people certainly want to post but can't.
I have tons of pics from my latest contest to show and I wait till the function is available. It's also a reason because there are not new threads recently.

AF is as much fun as you want it to be...no body is making you stay if you dont like it.
Why dont you make something different yourself if you think there is to much "boring" stuff here for you to look at.

If people injoy making these models...who cares....surely this is what modelling is all about..YOU MAKE WHAT YOU WANT, AND FOR YOURSELF !!

Second 'eh! Lets stick 'em on a race track or special stage and see who comes second

McLaren F1 versus a real F1!
Subie WRX versus a WRC!
Mercedes Gulwing versus a CLK-GTR!

All in good fun

Smile

I don't like lowriders, so about two minutes on Layitlow and I was bored silly. They all start looking alike after awhile, I'll stick with AF where there is a good variety.

Nothing is exciting 100% of the time.
