Sanding question

I read in some posts about wet sanding.
My question is in what situation should we use wet sand and "dry sand"?

Best Regards

I wet sand during the whole primer, painting, misty coat, orange peel, wet coat, and compound process.

I dry sand pre-primer. Smoothing out putty or body panels before laying down primer.

Not sure if this follows any sanding rules, but it has worked for me, so I've stuck to it.

Is there any special process to wet sand?
Or you just wet the sand paper in cold/hot water?

thanks

Nothing special to it, just keep the paper wet. I either do it at the sink or in a samll container. A little soap in the water helps keep the piece clean and lubricates the paper as well.

I'm not sure if there really is a 'wrong' time to wetsand. Wetsanding just lubricates the surface and makes the sandpaper work a whole lot better. It clears away any of the tiny debris and allows the sandpaper to keep working without getting gunked up.

The only down-side is that it's a bit messy and you need to let the parts dry after you're done.

I generally wetsand as much as I can for body parts and other major components. Minor parts don't get quite the pampering...
