Sanding question
![]() I read in some posts about wet sanding. My question is in what situation should we use wet sand and "dry sand"? Best Regards pmarque |

I dry sand pre-primer. Smoothing out putty or body panels before laying down primer. Not sure if this follows any sanding rules, but it has worked for me, so I've stuck to it. |

Is there any special process to wet sand?
Or you just wet the sand paper in cold/hot water? thanks pmarque

Nothing special to it, just keep the paper wet. I either do it at the sink or in a samll container. A little soap in the water helps keep the piece clean and lubricates the paper as well.

I'm not sure if there really is a 'wrong' time to wetsand. Wetsanding just lubricates the surface and makes the sandpaper work a whole lot better. It clears away any of the tiny debris and allows the sandpaper to keep working without getting gunked up.
The only down-side is that it's a bit messy and you need to let the parts dry after you're done. I generally wetsand as much as I can for body parts and other major components. Minor parts don't get quite the pampering... Murray |
