Talking i'm new, and fujimi rx-8?

hi guys,

i'm new to the forum, though i've been building model cars since i was like 7 =) of all the kits i built, i only have a handful left in my collection now. among my favorites kits are monogram's saleen s351 and 1/12 '57 bel air, tamiya's fd3s rx-7, F40, fc3s rx-7, prelude...nearly all the tamiya kits i've owned... unfortunately i don't have a digital camera to show you guys these cars...yet. right now i'm working on a tamiya R34...

i'm thinking of buying a few new kits from HobbySearch. i've never ordered stuff from Japan before. can you guys tell me if HobbySearch is a good store to order from? they're cheaper than HLJ and have more stuff. i'm in LA, do you guys know app. how long it takes to ship via SAL from experience?

also, it's been a VERY long time since i built a fujimi kit; long ago i built their M5, 928, and MR2 kits, but i don't remember how good they were. i really want their new RX-8 kit (!), but from reading the instructions it seemed kinda flimsy and simple. should it get it still?

anyway, i'm glad to be on board!

Welcome to AF!

Hobbysearch are a good place to order from, I've found them well priced and fairly speedy with their deliveries.

The RX-8 doesn't look like one of Fujimi's best efforts. From the pics that were posted here recently the kit looks very basic, missing an awful lot of detail. Also, I've seen finished pics of the kit and there's something not quite right about the proportions. I don't know what it is exactly, it's just not right. It also seems overpriced compared to the cheaper and more detailed Tamiya street kits like the R34 and 350Z.

But, if you want it then get it. I'm sure it'll make a good-looking addition to your collection. Or you could join the rest of us in praying to the model gods that Tamiya will release a RX-8 kit.

Hobby Search is a reliable place to order. SAL takes 7-10 days to Kansas from my experience.

Fujimi's RX-8 isn't really missing any details, such as separate wiper blade, separate mirror faces, posable steering etc. Shallow door panel details aren'T that obvious, if you don't look so closely.

Problem is the front bumper, and the shape of the nose and intake openings, and that needs some puttying, filing and sanding.
