Cool Just Finished...Fujimi RX-8

Just finished Fujimi's RX-8 kit.

It came out pretty good, considering it's such a crappy kit in many areas. The interior is the worst, but you see so little of it finished it's not so bad as long as it's finished..

Chassis detail is minimal at best...I didn't even bother to do any detailing to it, aside from painting the rims in Silver Leaf and the rotors in Gunze Iron buffing metalizer (it's da bomb) and detailing the rotors in red.

Painted in Tamiya Mica Red. Detailed lights/lenses/trim as well as I could to give it as realistic an appearance as possible. I took some 350Z (early edition) seats and grafted the RX-8 headrests in place, to replace the 1/2 scale Fujimi seats

Hope you enjoy seeing this. Hopefully we'll get a Mazdaspeed version to play with in the future...until then I'm working on my Nismo 350Z.

When it dries a bit more, I'll take it apart and photograph the interior and show the original seat next to one of the modified ones.

More pictures to show details:

Front end: Headlights painted to match photos, black buckets w/some of the chrome left visible. Outlined the edges of the lenses w/a black Sharpie pen, added the two little silver "slashes" w/a fine brush. Foglamps are MV lenses.

Taillight area detailed w/Bare Metal Foil, black acrylic brush paint, and a small amber MV lenses. The outer lenses were detailed w/two silver lines hand painted, and the edges were outlined w/a Sharpie pen. The large round taillight is from the kit, left it clear, and left the mica red paint on the body visible from behind it. The foil was trimmed to go around the lamp, and then black paint added on top of it for detail up to the edges of the entire surround.

It looks better on the model than enlarged so much by the camera...

Here you can see a top view of the seats...the Z seats I used and cut off the tops of the RX-8 seats and blended them into the Z seats after cutting off their headrests. Look how ridiculously tiny the lower seat cushions are on the RX-8 seats... They're actually shorter than the ones in the back...

wow, damn good job with those seats and with the head/ tail lights! Dissapointing to know that fujimi had such a lack of detail on the door panels and seats! But you did a nice job!

I'm just waiting for revell to come out with an RX8 which blows the fujimi one out of the water!
