Clicking noise

I have a 1999 Silverado with approximately 100k. This truck runs fine and I have had very few problems. But…..

I am hearing a clicking or rattling noise coming from the passenger side of the vehicle. It seems to happen when I turn to the left or right and stepping on the accelerator. When the truck is idling or if I turn the wheel left or right there is no noise, just when I step on the gas.

I am not sure if it is the CV joints in the front left wheel or not (I think that is what they put in the front wheel???). The nose may be coning from the transfer case or the front differential. I am not exactly sure where if coming from except that it is coming from the passenger side.

This rattling or clicking noise has been occur for about a week now and today the Service 4WD light came on.

Any Ideas?

I also have a clicking noise

I have a '00 Silverado Z71 and today I just noticed the same clickiing noise you described. I tried to locate it but since it was just me, I couldn't drive the truck and locate the noise at the same time. Mine only clicks when there is a load on the differential. No noise when revving the engine or coasting. In addition, I hear a squeaking noise when I'm backing up. The only difference is that when backing up, I hear the noise even if there is no load on the diff. Both noises seem to be coming from the rear of the vehicle and seem to be consistent or tied to the speed of the vehicle. In addition, the frequency seems more likely to be similar to the RPM of the drive shaft and not the wheel itself.

I'll be taking it by the dealership this evening for their opinion. When I get a feel for what it is and how much it will cost, I'll decide it I want to let them work it or fix it myself.

Any ideas???

Clicking noise...turned out to be U-joints

The clicking noise got progressively worse as the day drew on and by the time I got to the dealer, it was fairly consistent. The informed me that it was the u-joints on both ends of my drive shaft. Checked around on repair, both at Chevy dealer and local repair shops and couldn't find anyone who could replace for less than $300. Apparently the u-joints are quite expensive and from what I was told, are only available from Chevy. I was a little curious about that but was unable to find a replacement part anywhere and was forced to let the dealer do the work.

I just replaced the u-joints in my 2000 Silverado 2WD about a month ago. It cost me $32 plus some grease since I didn't already have some. I read a post elsewhere that the ones I purchased were of high quality, made by precision.
