Car Mirrors

Hi,

I was just wondering what you people do to side-view and rear-view mirrors to make them more realistic? (the glass part on real mirrors). What colour do you paint them if you just paint them.

Thanks

You could use Silver Leaf, or Chrome Silver.

I put BMF on the mirror and then a thick layer of future or clear epoxy.

I've been very pleased with mine since I've been foiling them, but I'll have to try it with the clear on top.

I use heavy duty craft mylar (available at most craft stores as Shimmer Sheetz - silver).

Use the mirror housings to make templates for cutting the mylar, then sand the edges smooth until the correct shape and size is achieved.

Ordinary white glue or epoxy is used to affix the pieces.

The mylar gives a crystal clear mirror finish . . .

SHIMMER SHEETZ

Here are mylar mirrors used on my Diablo.

I'm not sure of the actual size but, It's about the same thickness as an index card.

Also, There are other sources for the mylar, such as these round trinkets pictured below. They are found in the bead section of craft stores and come in packages of 20 or so. These may be easier to find than the Shimmer Sheetz.

(sorry for the poor web cam shot)
