Front end popping noise.

94 Pathfinder XE-V6 4x4

My 94 has a popping noise during left and right turns, not always though.
I have had a dealer and other private shops take a look at it and had about 3 grand in work done (under waranty) and it is still popping. I have heard this is a common problem with the Pathfinder. Anyone know anything/suggestions?

It's either your turn stops bottoming out and making a noise when you turn the steering wheel all the way one direction or the other, or it's your front crossmember to frame mount bolts needing to be torqued. When your vehicle was new, it had turn stop caps on the tips of the stops, in time they become worn out and either wear through or fall off. They're simple plastic caps, easily replaced. I've seen your question asked on a ton of other boards, and all have the same problem, it's either the turn stops or the bolts on the crossmember.

Simple solutions: grease the turn stop tips and their respective sockets on the steering knuckles, or retorque the crossmember bolts to about 140 ft-lbs(I think).

First, let me say thanks for the reply. Second, it's not the turn stops. That was the first thing I suspected. As far as the crossmember bolt torque, I will look into that this evening. Thanks for the pointer.
Something else off the subject above. What kind of gas mileage do you get?? I know everyones is a little different since no two trucks have been kept up the same and different aftermarket add ons, but I seem to get really shitty gas mileage. My truck is stock except for 31x10.50x15 Mudd Trax true mudders and a K&N air filter. I fill up with about 19 gallons and get about 230 miles before empty. ??????????????????????
(SWEET pic of your truck dude!)

Re: Re: Re: Front end popping noise.

Thanks for the compliment.

Everybody I've talked to gets shitty gas mileage out of their Nissan V6. It's just the way they are. I've heard as high as 18 MPG and as low as 10. I get about 12 MPG. I WANT A V8, dammit! How the hell they managed to create such a underpowered, gas hog little V6 is beyond me. I swear. A carbureted stock Chevy 350 would get better gas mileage and have three times the HP. :P
