which porsche should i buy?
Alright im in highschool, in 12th grade now. I have a steady paying job, and have 5grand saved. I have the ok to by any car i want as long i can afford it. The car will go under my parents plan so i dont have to worry about insurnace (i know i didnt spell that right) costing too much. I like the way the porsches look and I love cars with a history. I am looking to find one that is fast, reliable and good at handling, but most of all it must not cost a fortune to fix. Which porsche would you recommend for someone in my situation. Also if anyone could post some info on the 80's porsche 944 turbo that would be nice.

i am fairly new to the Porsche scene, but i say get a Newer 944 Turbo, because i hear they are the best 944's. dont get a normal 944. we all learned that the hard way, am i right guys? i dunno i could be wrong. i say wait for other members to respond (they are way more familiar with the 944's)

A 944 Turbo is a great choice but since you have only $5,000 saved right now your not gooing to find one worth buying at that price. Your gonna be expecting to pay at least $7500 for a well maintained 944 Turbo. Sure you can find one for $5,000 and it will look good to but trust me when I say to spend the extra money to find a 944 Turbo that is well documented and has a good maintainance history. You dont replace the clutch and/or belt and other expensive things right after you buy it. You want a Porsche that does not cost a fortune to fix, well there is no such thing. Performance = Ca$h!
944 Turbo mods are pretty inexpensive but the maintainance part to keep them in tip top shape are pricey and the install labor can more than the part cost it self. I recommend you get a 914 which will run ya about $1000-$1500 and mod it. the 914 doesnt come close to the 944 Turbo's speed but the 914 handles like a dream. I used to own one, it feels like driving a go-Kart. You could get a big bore kit to up the power and upgrade the suspension and you would have some fun. Although to me 914 is a ugly car but worth the money in handeling capabilities. Quote:

personally, i dont liek the 914 body. i dont think much of the younger crowd likes it. its so retro. even 944 n/a arent bad. i have a 88 na and im very happy. oh sure its not turbo, and dman i wish it was, but... at least you dont gotta get a new engine or spend tons of money on internals to make it go faster than a civic. (no offence to civics)

what about the reliability? Should I be scared its gonna break everytime i go out? I do like to gun it to the speed limit. I'll be pretty content leaving it pretty much stock, maybe a guru performance chip. I realy like the 944 turbo the best I think. I wont have any problems maintaining it because i love to work on cars. Is buying replacement parts going to cost me a fortune?

Contrary to popular beliefe, Porsches are very relaible. Infact CNN rated Porsche the mosr reliable cars. Like I wrote before, you have to make sure the car your buying has a fully documented maintaince record. Don't just buy the cheapest 944 Turbo you can find, spend the extra cash on a well maintained one. You will save your self the thousands of dollars in repair costs.
