which ecu should i buy?
hey my boy has a 93 rx7 and he wants to know what type of ecu upgrade he should go with. he has an hks intake, 3 inch straight pipes and a fluidyne radiator. he plans to go single turbo but is going to stick with the stock setup for right now. what would you recommend at a psuedo-modest budget (1100 or less)? thanks

Well $1100 or less isn't gonna get a whole lot. The A'PEXi Power FC is probably the best deal out there now, but it's gonna be more than $1100. If he just buys the unit itself it may be under that, but then he won't have the FC Commander controller to monitor things and make adjustments. The Haltec E6K is great too, but it's far more involved than the FC. He could always get a stock upgrade from Pettit, M2, or something to that effect. They're not adjustable, but they'd be in his price range and okay for the time being.

Thanks, I'm tellin him to go with the Haltech. Especially for later down the road when he goes single turbo. He'd prolly spend up to $1600

Actually the PFC is more popular than just about any other unit right now. And goin single down the road isnt a problem w/ this unit. A matter a fact if Im not mistaken some of the other ecu's have a problem running larger secondaries(w/out the need of any resistors and so forth) which is usually a by product of goin single.
I have one FS that is about 2 months old w/ the commander for under ur price range if ur interested. Its in my Sunday car not a daily driver and has about 2-3 hrs worth of use. Lemme know if still interested! |

The only real issue with the Power FC is tuning. The Commander is only so useful and if/when he does go single he'll need to take it to an authorized A'PEXi dealer like XS, SR Motorsports, and so forth of which there are only a handful in the US. The tunability of the PFC is second to none though. The Haltec is a great unit, but hard to install and tune, but many have gotten great results with it. I'd agree with 3rgGenLuvr about going with the PFC though...it's plug n play and it's pretty versatile for the price. Not quite as high tech as the Haltec, but definatly a great choice.
