speedo and tach needle lights out
I recently bought a used '95 ES 300 on which the tach and speedometer needles are no longer illuminated. The needles have been painted white so they can be seen during the day, but at night they're pretty hard to see. The used car dealer who sold me the car said that's a common problem with Lexus, and my local Lexus dealer said you have to replace the entire gauge cluster to fix it. ($$$$$)
What do people do when this happens? Is there any kind of little light that can be attached to illuminate the needles?

My son told me they can't be fixed yourself but you have to take it to the dealer and buy a new part. I forget what it costs but it is expensive he said.

Guy's I know this thread is old, but I had this done a few day's ago and was going to say www.lextech.org did it for me incase anyone else had this problem. I found them on Ebay. As far as I know, noone else in the country does it aside of them. The needles look good and you can't beat $99 for all 4. So far I like them.
 I'm not an autoforum virgin anymore! After lurking for what seems like forever I finally registered, lol.

Hi, I bought some of those lights off Ebay & they were horrible! You could barley see the needles in daylight, Plus the gauges were way off! I found a place in Michigan that did an awesome job, the needles are brighter than they were before they went bad. They said the needles from Ebay were not balanced right so it threw all my gauges off. www.dashusa.com is the website (888)909 9473 if the phone #... Good luck!!

ES 300 same problem !! Just got a ticket in Virginia couldnt see how fast I was going. Can any 1 tell me how to remove the gauge cluster?? Tried that link on the post above but its for a "SC" .Any 1 remove it from an "ES" ??

Bud you're bumping a thread more than a year since the last post.
Lextech.com That's forum member O.L.T on ClubLexus.com Good guy. He can re-do anything for you for cheap. AFA the cluster, download the "famous" 1994 Camry Repair Manual, or go buy a Hayne's 92-96 Camry repair manual.
