Question AE86 or EF8?

hey in a couple of months i'm gonna be buying a car i really like the ae86 and the ef8 currently i have a 90 honda civic dx in piss-pore shape if i go w/ the ef i'm gonna buy a better engine for it and if i go w/ the 86 i'm prolly not gonna do jack to the engine, i guess my current civic is how i developed the interest in civics and so far i've only read about the 86, seen shows about, and talked to car buffs about it. have simular knowlege of the ef closest thing i've come is my crappy dx.

well what do you guys think i should do?

a real ef8? like a JDM CRX SiR? i'd rather have that then a trueno AkA Hachi-Roku AkA AE86 AkA Corolla.

EDIT- just looked at poll. ef8 is not a 88-91 civic si...but i'd still like my civic si over a 86...

Go for it. Good car, sweet engine. Drive wheels are at the correct end of the car. My short list when I bought my civic was Corolla GTS and Civic Si.

well to add to gregs correction ... the corrolla would be running years 85 to 87 ... and im like 99% positive on this cause when i bought mine we had to do yahoo searches to find one as well as the normal assortment of websites for car searches.

hachi's arenot slow. infact they are about the same stock as any of our civics ... except the si cause it has multipoint and that would probly give it the little bit of edge. what the civic doesnt have is RWD which is all to the corolla for an advantage. taking some lessons to get the mad dorifto down makes cornering that much more fun. we have all seen the crazy vids from japan with the drifting so you get an idea of what you "could possibly" do if you were skilled enough.

as much as i love my civic. i would trade it and any chances at a normal life and having kids ever for a fully functional stock hachi that i could make my own. mmm panda style with a silver top and black bottom.

OMG you even have to ask?

GET THE AE86. Youre lucky you found one, get it. Also, if drifting gets more popular with D1 coming the 30th...youre hachiroku will be worth 3 times that of the civic.

Get the hachi then drop a 20valve engine in it and listen to those revvs roar. Cant believe that EF and ae86 are in teh same sentence. (i drive a ef so im allowed to say that).

Just make sure that you know your shit and are getting a GT-S. Dont let anyone tell you that their SR5 is a AE86, rofl. Some people are pretty dumb out there. Itll cost a lot to get your SR5 to 86 specs while you could be just swapping your engine.

No doubt AE86. RWD, that's all that you need to know. Admittedly, they're not the best lookin' cars, but they're not horrible. Just throw in the Formula Atlantic engine, and have fun at 11,000rpm.

thats fargin insane ... the formula atlantic engine costs more then most new BMW's ... thats 5 grand for just the cranks!

the entire engine costs in the range of 25-30 grand. and thats not entirely a daily driver either ... thats gonna need some really high grade gas to run properly.

another thing to note is that the hatchback although better looking is actually not the best ... the coupe has better handling so i hear from people who actually raced both models ...

and blue a SR5 is still an ae86 ... even the GTS had LSD as an option so its not a garuntee that your gonna get that.

but if you want to make your hachi worth driving, all you really need to do is make sure you have LSD and the 16 valve engine that wont blow up like mine did. LSD for the hachi when i was looking to buy it was in the range or 600 - 800 bucks so its kinda pricy compared to some other things ... and dont expect nearly the support for after market parts cause there is almost none that i found. but thems the breaks when you pick one of the cheapest and easiest cars to go get your mad dorifto on.

Re: Re: AE86 or EF8?

Too much Initial D for you. The AE86 is a very average car unless you get the real JDM Spec one even then it's not much chop unless you want to head out drifting. It's not until you pour a ton of money into one that you get a great, very '80s car. BTW - stock for stock, a EF/ED will outhandle an AE86.

BTW - you do know that a EF8 is a CRX not a Civic don't you? More importantly it's a JDM VTEC CRX

get the civic for sure, those corollas are garbage unless you have lots of cash to put into them, but just think if you put all that money into a civic which has way cheaper aftermarket.

hey has anybody ever converted a 4th gen into a rwd, ive seen a 4wd but never a rwd.
