hey everyone, ijust joined and need help
i have a 1991 civic hb si and have a problem. ihave my cat disconnected and when i reach 3000 rpm, a noise starts to sound. Also when i connect it back, blueish smoke comes ot when i gun the accelerator. My friend said it could be that my cat needs replacing. Also my car is repiped to 2 or 2 1/2 in. piping. When i checked my motor oil today i had no oil in there. Could it be burning the oil? -Help

Blue smoke = burning oil
no oil in motor = bad keep in mind the dipstick only shows up to 1 quart low...if the idiot light in the dash comes on, it is probably already too late. Excessive oil consumption in theory could clog the cat...but I doubt the cat is causing the blue smoke directly. Welcome

My friend says my cat may need replacing if it sounds like there is a whole bunch of stuff inside the cat when i take it off and shake it. Is this true?

get a zc and have a custom 2 1/4 piping exhaust with a high flow cat and your problems will be fixed

BLUE smoke = BURNING COOLANT
WHITE grey or black smoke = burning oil if ur spitting out blue smoke you are likely to have a blown head gasket most common cause for oil burning is bad piston rings

Last time I checked it was blue = oil, white = water
![]() If the head had gone and it was coolant - he'd have emulsion as well as smoke - he has no oil... not too hard to figure out Sounds like valves or rings have gone at the least. Rebuild the motor or drop a replacement in. Yes the cat will be choked.. throw it and replace it. The rattle could well be it's heatshield coming loose - it happens. The cat is totally unrelated to the smoke - your friend is full of shit. Cheers |

Yeah...what Setanta said... I removed my heatshield on my cat a while back...but for a long time, I just had it clamped with big-ass hose clamps and that worked for years
