|
Off-road classification?
I've seen websites selling the gtr as "off road only: do not ask about registering"
Would you be able to register one as an off-road only vehicle right out of the boat and be able to drive/tow it home? Also, what exactly does "off-road only" entail?

no no no you didn't get teh question
I meant as in, when a car has an off-road only title/whatever, what does that mean? Like can it only be driven my class B roads or so many miles in the city, or can you only have it on a trailer unless it is outside the city limits...etc

it means "for off-road (ie. not on public roads) or show use only"
it means the car is a dedicated track car, or a show car. not to be driven on public thoroughfares. next question?

I am also interested in hearing a possible answer for this. Because if I could import a Skyline for "off-road use" and just have it sit in my parents garage while I am saving up the cash to have Motorex legalize it I would be more than happy. Because, I will be in Japan with the USAF for 2 years, in that time I don't think I could save up enough to pay the $17k legalization fees through Motorex. I would need another year. How possible is this? I've done hours of searching through this board, read just about every Skyline related post, and I haven't seen this question answered once:
Can we import it as "off-road use", store it for a year, and then legalize through Motorex? See I'd still be doing it the right way, I'm just wondering if I can bring the car back with me without sending it to Motorex right away? I'm not being a dick, I'm not trying to be, so please no flames, and please just give a straight answer. Thanks! Jason

You don't get plates and teh car is not registered in any form if you choose to go offroad, it cannot go on the street taht way though, so eventually you could legalize it and get it a VIN As for a show car, I know it has to be registered, and you get to drive it 5k miles a year on a normal road, but since most people will only take teh car out to cruise maybe 100 miles at most on the weekend, that ends up to be just over 5000 miles anyways, so you're pretty much set even if you can't register later Someone needs to go to the DOT/customs and find out for sure, I'm about to call a buddy in Cali and ask him about it there (he knows some people that own them there) so if I get to it before you, I'll be sure to post it
