1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee RKE

I have a 1995 Grand Cherokee Limited that I purchased used. The vehicle is all power, and has some sort of stock alarm system. The alarm is automatically set when I lock the doors with the electric switch on the drivers side door, and goes off if i disconnect/reconnect the battery. I am pretty sure it is equipped with RKE, but it came with no owners manual or remotes. If anyone could help me verify this option, find the proper item #, and programming instructions for this vehicle I would Greatly Appreciate it. Chrystler wants $160 for a single replacement remote, and I'm not even sure that includes programming... so I would much rather ebay it.

And a pre-emptive Thank You to all who read this thread.

Chrisbax

Edit: I forgot one detail, the vehicle is equipped with the in-dash security indicator that lights up just under the speedometer when it is armed. Not sure how important that is. Thanks again

Smile Re: 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee RKE

I believe the 1993 through 1995 had the same RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) system. Any Jeep dealer should be able to give you the part # for reference. I have listed the part # for my 1993. I recently purchased two remotes from ebay and was going nuts trying to find out how to program them. For giggles my wife asked me for the owners manual. And there it was Page 1-6 the programing instructions.(After racking my brains on the computer for days)(LOL) I remembered seeing your posting, and had to come back to reply. HOPE ALL THIS HELPS!

Steve

Part # 56009031

Instructions on programing:

1. Sit inside the vehicle and close all the doors.

2. Place ignition in the OFF position.

3. Open the driver's door and leave open during programming procedure.

4. Move the mechanical door lock lever to the Lock position.

5. Turn ignition to the RUN Position.

6. Aim the transmitter at the Keyless Entry receiver and press Lock Button.

7. Hold for five seconds until the door locks cycle.

8. Turn ignition OFF within 20 seconds.

9. Check receiver memory by cycling the door locks using the transmitter.

Up to four transmitters may be programmed to each receiver.

Security Alarm System if factory should set with the RKE!

remote entry procedure

see 9-15 entry concerning 96 programming. I have 93. procedure same for 93-96 i believe.
If it doesn't work, you may have bad ecm module(like me)
to disable manually. use key on either front door or back tailgate as follows:
turn key twice quickly to left and then once to right to manually disable security system. This assumes any of the 3 door switch solenoids work(all mine wore out)
cheapest avenue if ecm is bad is to buy a door switch solenoid and replace 1 side. their only @ 15 dollars i think
hope this helps

oh baby, you are my hero.
I got one key with this truck.

For now reason for the past 4 months I must ALWAYS open the tailgate with the key (not swing it up just turn key in lock to unlock and puts inside lights on).

Then I may enter the drivers door via putting key in lock and turning.

Otherwise if I go to the drivers door first and unlock the alarm goes off.

thank you for this info...

you rock!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee RKE

For clarification:

This remote type will work for the 93-95 GRAND Cherokee, and 93-96 Cherokee.
