There are a few people who post here who are rather close to several of the vehicles in the US, but no direct owners. We share a lot of info besides just photos, and have fun tracking the various cars down that are here.

m3mark - your price is about half of what it should be, and you might be surprised to learn that there are over 20 McLaren F1s here in the US now.

according to mclaren's website there is only 100 of all mclaren cars made so its doubtful your see anybody posting here saying they have one that can proove it. they probably have their own forum on a private website. the car cost $860,000 last time i heard. but its funny the F1 is actually one of the most practical super cars ever, it has storage areas infront of the tires that equal the trunk space of a fiesta and room to sit 3 people.

The production run ran form 1993-1998, so they've been done for a while. That price ($860,000) was in British pounds, I saw the website, but I forget which car exactly was for sale. Super car, yes, practical, not reall. Yes there is luggage space (there's side pods as well) but it only holds custom made luggage, and I couldn't picture anybody taking such an investment on much of a trip forwhat could be an infinite amount of reasons I totally respect.

There's no EPA figures for fuel economy on the F1 that I am aware of.

I would suspect that the car averages what other similar large displacement performance cars do - and that it would vary depending on how the vehicle is driven. It's probably a very thirsty engine at higher RPMs but how often can you drive the car at it's limits?

I can tell you that one of the things that made the F1 GTRs so successful, was their excellent fuel economy in comparison to many of their competitors like the turbocharged F50 and 911 GT1. High powered turbo cars - even ones designed for the road - are often bad when it comes to that factor.

Well, both good and bad, but mostly good! Let me sum up the reactions I am aware of:

Negative:
-Disappointment at how much personal info is on here
-Astonishment at how many rumours and myths are often thrown around (Peloton, you do a superb job of debunking them!) and how outrageous/creative some of them are
-Disappointment at how much jealousy and resentment is sometimes shown
-Disappointment at one individual's accusations (not making this up, honest)

Neutral:
-Observation that most of the fans/posters are very young (15-25 years old) when the owners are typically so much older
-Shaking of the head at some people's attempts to try and actually market their car buying and selling services here (not a negative reaction, per se, just too improbable)

Positive:
-Lots of entertaining reading
-Get to know some things they themselves didn't know
-Happiness at the popularity of cars
-Interest about other owners and anecdotes about the cars
-Amazement at the passion shown by posters like Peloton
-Amazement at the knowledge shown by posters here
-Admiration at the persistence and resourcefulness of the picture collectors!
-Good resource for quickly finding some information using the search feature
-Great resource for race history, individual cars, and of course, pictures

The owners I know are happy to "share" their cars with true enthusiasts but also want to protect their own privacy. It must be a hard balance. As a certain ex-owner wrote to me, the attention from the public is absolutely unrelenting. I know when I saw Dan Kennedy's car parked out of the way at the Ferrari Challenge races, there was never a moment when it was not surrounded, and every time he came near the car he was mobbed.

As an aside, Peloton, I am eagerly anticipating your website. I think it will be amazing. Are you planning on any "active" content ie. ability for people to list cars and pictures according to different criteria?

What website are you talking about that you saw its price because I have video from a british show and they said it cost 560,000 british pounds i think it was so i did the math on a convertor and i got $860,000 american dollars. And yeah I don't think people would go on trips with it either but it is practical compared to other cars like it.

Plenty of people do go on long trips with the cars...

It seats 3, carries plenty, is comfortable to be in, sounds wonderful, is reliable, drives nicely at low speeds, and we all know how fast it is. Except for rough neighborhoods, what would keep an owner from taking it? The only other things I have heard of are that they have time constraints and it is quicker to fly to get to where they are going, or they have so many cars to choose from that they just take another one.
