1984 Celica GT = worth it?

My grandpa just gave me his 1984 celica GT since he is overseas now...I was wondering if this thing is worth building up. The only thing that is done to the car are some used ol' school Enkie 92 mesh wheels. Is the GT even worth fixing up, or is it crap compared to the GTS? What are some cheap mods I can do right now?

Thanks

its the same thing.

whether it is worth building up is up to you. it takes a lot of money to get power out of NA celicas, but it is possible

I guess I could try, its just the fan base for this year celica is not big at all! I would be working close to alone. Do you have any info on more aftermarket for this year or any other MORE populated forums?

Thanks

I also noticed that some manufactures are discontinuing their parts for my year cause of demand.

Anyways, im looking at these Tokico gas shocks, and it says GTS w/IRS, does this mean they cant fit my GT?!?! And whats IRS?

well, get behind the car and look at the differential and suspension.

if the axel is solid like on a truck, then you do not have independant rear suspension.

and try www.celica.net. go to the forum and look for the forum specifically for your generation celica. it is a lot more active on that site.

go to http://www.185performance.com/cgi-bi...=classiccelica for all your suspension stuff. check out www.lcengineering.com for all your engine stuff (kinda pricey but great stuff).

your car will respond good to just headers, cam, carb, and ignition. unless you have the 22RE then forget about the carb. the best headers for the 20R,22R,22RE are the Doug Thorley Tri-Y headers. you can get them at www.toysport.com toysport also sells fender flares and body kit stuff for your car along with suspesnion stuff and JDM stuff. http://www.kaminari.com/
they have an awseom looking body kit for 3rd gens and its only $800 for the kit.

mcdoink: the stock 22R is rated at 95hp i believe. you can tune thes things to about 200-220hp all motor. the stock internals will hold up to about 250-300hp when boosted. a fully built turbo can get into the 400hp range pretty easy. toysport had a drag truck pumping out 1100hp witht he stock crank. these engines are pretty bulletproof. my friend with an 81 drove it with a cracked block over 30,000 miles before we realized the problem and he still drives it. just put on some jbweld. plus when we pulled his oil pan off he had bits of gasket and timing guide in it and it hasnt been fixed and still runs. but were replacing it with a hybrid now.
