Rubbing Sound From Drivers Front Wheel

Hi
What could be causing a rubbing sound from the drivers side? It seems to get worse when I turn right. Someone told me it may be a caliper, whatever that is. I have pinpointed the sound to behind the front wheel. There is new brakes, pads, etc. It even makes it when I go straight.

Wheel could be rubbing against the inside of teh wheel well. A quick look at your wheel, while someone turns the steering wheel from lock to lock, should show whether this is the problem. It could be that your brake calipers are too tight, or you have a warped brake rotor. Both of these would require you taking your car into a Meinekie or Jiffy Lube to get the brakes checked out.

Get it checked out. Make sure all the brake hardware are in place. If the brakes are okay, it could be the wheelbearings making a noise. To me it sounds like the right side. You said it gets worse when you turn right, makes me think it is the right bearing. Good Luck.

My 96 GT1 is doing the same thing, only it is worse on the drivers side and when turning left. Also with accelerating and certain bumps. I just had my bearings redone, and the brakes, too, so I don't think it is either of those. I haven't had a chance to take the wheel off yet, but I was able to see a broken-down bushing (I guess) on the drivers side that is leaking grease. It is a rubber seal above an angle joint just inside the wheel, visible from under the car. I found it when I was just feeling around for something loose and came back with a handful of grease. I checked the passenger side, and the same seal is intact there.

I now have to track down exactly what part that is so I can get it replaced to see if it fixes the problem. It looks fairly minor, so hopefully it is the cause of the problem and not a result of something worse causing stress on that particular joint. I've taken it in to be checked, but I haven't been impressed with the results from the professionals. Unfortunately, my previously reliable Pontiac dealer seems to have changed personalities and I don't trust them anymore, either, so I guess I'm on my own.

Let me know if you find out anything, and I'll do the same.

O2
