What would cause a metal on metal screeching noise to come out of the right front corner of my truck? It only does it at Highway speeds of 70pmh or so. It's intermittent. Bumps don't affect it and neither do light pressure on the brakes at that speed. I have replaced pads and rotors 3 times already and truck only has 50k miles on it. The truck goes straight down the highway and does not pull either left or right. This leads me to believe it's not the brakes. The noise is loud enough to hear it over the radio at loud volumes and it sounds like the same noise that is made when you put an old rusty lug nut on a stud and get that ear piercing screech. Dealers have had it for weeks and they have only test drove it but say they never hear it on the backroads and have never taken the wheel off other than one guy that said it was the brakes again.. costing me $600 of a waste of my time and money. Any input is appreciated, I'm very frustrated with this intermittent problem. |

Re: 07' silverado Metal on Metal intermitent Screeching from Right front wheel well

my 2000 silverado the front brake pads went 90,ooomi.. most get 35-50,ooomi. this is usually the calipers are defective..if the vehicle was not bleed properly at any time water/mosture will cause them to bind up ..this causes rapid pad wear and rotor damage..the caliper pins may be damaged rusted.. the pads may be too tight in the caliper as the pad metal backing has metal burrs that cause the pad to lock up causing rapid wear. the heat shields can also be a problem if bent out of position..the front wheel sensor wire if not properly secured can hit the rotor. Thanks for the reply. I knew that info but was stretching for anything.. In a fluke discovery the chevy mechanic said.. "hey all these mounts and fasteners in your fender well are wrong. These aren't the right fender fasteners." My reply was.. "Well where did they come from this was a brand new truck from the factory bought with 0 miles on it and I never had work done to it." He pushed on the fender well and it did a metal to metal screech. So I think we found it by accident. Very strange. I wonder if they'll call it warranty since it came from the factory wrong?? We'll see what happens when they get the proper mounts and fasteners in tomorrow. |

your vehicle purchased new has the wrong fender fasteners???? the factory did not do this...............the dealership did this where it was purchased...this does happen...stealing parts from vehicles waiting to be sold , to get out a new a vehicle that needed work,,,,then they [the dealership] just put what they had , wrong fasteners , and put the issue on you...delay tactic ... |

Yeah I had sneaky suspicions about that when i went to talk about it and they blew it off like no big deal. Chevy has agreed to pay for all parts, labor and diagnosis relating to this issue now. I brought the truck back today for the installation of the new fasteners and they said the wrong ones were shipped to them. So now I need another day after next week when they anticipate the correct ones to show up. I'm so frustrated with the dealer. At least Chevy is making good on fixing the issue. Wish me luck. |

then after it dried I intalled the inner plastic fenders with dow 795 sealer and the fasteners ...the sealer is on all the seams ...this has now 10yrs rust belt driving kept the fender with no rust ...obviously no movement to make any noise...with the plastic moving this will cause metal paint to wear then the rust... on the inner plastic fenders after the first winter I extended these down 3 inches using rubber roofing ..this worked great as now the engine compartment is protected from the winter road slop... with your year I'm not sure how they fabricated these fenders exactly .. your fastener issue is very strange because these fasteners must be available to complete any body work...this if for some reason is a part problem would then make a case they stole yours to complete a vehicle that needed them.. post back how it went... |
