quick question about torque converters. . .

What exactly is a "Torque Converter", and what does it do?. . .

ITS BASICLY A CLUTCH FOR AN AUTOMATIC SO IN OTHER WORDS YOU DONT NEED TO STEP ON THE CLUTCH.TORQUE CONVERTERS ARE ONLY FOR AUTOMATIC CARS

in other words a Torque convertor in an Auto is like the clutch and flyhweel in a Manual, fluids, engine speed, throttle position, and the ecu help to control the shift points in an automatic.
