killed a Honda
I know this should be in the racing forum but I also have a question about my car with this story.
Ok I was heading home with a friend of mine on 90th south, and this guy in a red Honda Civic, not sure what year but it looked pretty new, starts to try to get me to go at it, I just ignore him for about a half mile then we hit a stop light, and he's just sitting there in his car with that pissed off look like someone pissed in his cheerios, he's got a sun visor on turned backwards and upside down so I figure I should humble him so when the light turns green I hammer it and all of a sudden the car just starts to shake VIOLENTLY, but i'm still going so I let off the throttle a little and shift to 2nd, and the vibration subsides then I hit th throttle again and put about 3 car lengths between us, if I hadn't let my RPM's drop in first I would have done better. I am just wondering why my car was vibrating so bad it has done this before only a couple of times. I have only been driving my car a couple of days since I got the new cam and intake manifold. It felt like my entire rear end was hopping up and down very quickly, and I don't think it was just a traction problem I didn't feel my tire spinning, anyone know what could cause this

well all that i can think of right now (gotta go to work soon so i don't got time to think about it) is that you might be making to much torque for the rear end, or somthing like that how much torque you makin? and what gears do you have in the rear end?

I'm not sure how much torque it's producing I had it dynoed at 240lb-ft but right after that I put in a new bigger cam and a way better intake on, but I have an 8" rear and I figured that they would be able to take more than 300lb-ft of tq, the rear also has 2:79 gears which I will soon be changing to 3:55's

What your describing is called wheel-hop. Basically you have too much torque and not enough stick. Solution.... new stronger more aggressive rear end suspension parts.

Yeah could it have been just wheel hop? If they make traction bars for your Mustang that would help if you don't want to spend the money on a new rear.

The Mustang II rear suspension is pretty horrible when it comes to wheelhop. Try upgrading to some heavier duty shocks back there or putting in some traction bars.
It doesn't really have anything directly to do with torque. As you launch, the suspension and tires squat, but if it's not properly tuned, the rebound from the squat can cause the wheel to lift, and the car loses traction, the suspension re-loads, tire grips, rebound, loses traction, re-loads, tire grips, etc etc. In the case of the Mustang II, you also have wind up to contend with. The rear end actually spins partially as a reaction to the forward motion, and the leaf springs allow it to shift position slightly so it rebounds as well, increasing the problem. Getting stiffer or softer springs, adding better shocks or add some traction bars to control the rear end movement.

Dude My GT could smoke just about any honda modle they're slow rice burners the only thing I don't think I could beat is a Civic Htch back light with NOS but that's cheating, if I had NOS it would be a fair race.

how the hell is that cheating? "NOS" as you call it is just another type of way to make some more horse power and torque... theres no such thing as cheating if you just running on the street.... and as for the wheel hop you could just turn your leaf into coil overs |

Nitrous reminds me of steroids, but for cars. It's like daddy's little helper. One shot and good to go.
