It's an Australian thing.

From what I've gathered on the internet, it's a series of games between QLD and NSW. Is it Rugby League or Rugby Union? Are these teams made up of the best from each state? What is the role of SOO relative to other tournaments?

I don't know anything about rugby. I just keep hearing about SOO alot.

And what's up with all the leagues? NRL? ARL? Can't find a comprehensive site about rugby on the internet. A lot of them just post the outcome of games, or sell jerseys. Then there are the Wallabies and All Blacks, and I have no clue what they are. I assume they are international teams.

SOO is a competition between the two fiercely competive states of QLD and NSW (GO the blues!). That happens accross I think 5 games to decide the years winners.

All Blacks/Wallabies etc. are Union, international teams.

AFL is different again, completely different. It is popular everywhere except Queensland and involves heaps less violence

I found alot of 'info' at Footy World by browsing their shops. They organise the jerseys by league and that made alot more sense.

Why the two competing rugby flavours? Which brand of rugby does the rest of the world play? And why are there so many tournaments? How can Australia handle three brands of football (four if you include soccer)? I can't imagine there being equal viewership.

From that site, I've gathered that Rugby Union is the more international version. The Aussie teams are also based on states instead of cities. Rugby Union has the Rugby World Cup.

Rugby League teams are based on cities (excluding NZ Warriors). But then you have the NSW and QLD State of Origin teams. Are these comprised of players from different teams of that state?

And I said NRL v ARL. Notice the 'R". I know AFL is totally different.

League is a more strategic game, Union is really all brawn when you put it in terms of black and white.

As for the teams : Wallabies - Australia. All Blacks - NZ (represent!). Springboks - South Africa (represent!), etc etc...(forget the other teams )

I don't know whether I'm ignorant or apathetic. Don't know about Rugby or don't care. Both really.

Would I seem like a loser if I wore a rugby jersey but know nothing about the team or sport? I think the look 'cool'.
