Hello. I'm new to this forum. I'm usually on the Infiniti forum. Anyway, I am trying to help a friend install a Pioneer DEH-1500 CD stereo to replace the factory stereo in my friend's 1996 Dodge Intrepid. I bought the wire harness (gray & black) and face kit. Everything is wired up and something is wrong! The sound is distorted and has no volume or bass. It sounds terrible! There is also no sound from the front door speakers, just the front dash tweeters. I checked all the leads 15 times and everything is wired up right. Is there some trick that needs to be done with installing an aftermarket stereo in these cars? I'm starting to think that maybe the stereo is bad except for the front door speaker problem. I plug the original factory back in and it sounds great.
Oh btw...it's not the Infinity system. I found some info on the web concerning that setup. It appeares to be just the standard cassette system with two dash speakers, two front door speakers, and two rear deck speakers. Any info or tips please e-mail me. Thanks, Robert |

I did this with a Pioneer system about a year ago and had the same exact problem. It had something to do with the amplifier in the non-Infinity systems not being specified in the wiring diagram. Unfortunately I'm at work now and don't have access to the leftovers from when I did it but the amplifier is the key. If I remember correctly it needs to be hooked up to where the power antennea would hook up. Hope this helps.
