new to us van. won't start. looking for the fuel pump - where is it???

any other suggestions...

When you turn the key on, can you hear any sound from the gas tank area? It will be low and only last a few seconds. If you do, that's your fuel pump kicking in and pressurizing. Then it stops. If nothing happens, check for a blown fuse for the pump.

Now ,if the pump kicks in and the motor turns over, do you have spark?

I'll try listening for the sound and go from there.

We can actually get it to run - for about 30 seconds.....

You did everythig right, but, just because you can hear it does not mean it's workingt properly. Get your fuel pump pressure tested before your van stops where you least want it to. It's quite a cheap test. Also possible your due for a fuel filter change..
