rpms

Sorry i put this post up before about tune ups.

OK my Car starts up idles at 2k then drops to 1.5k then will hover between 2 and 1.5 then when driving will drop to a little under 1k thats where it should be but drive it a little more and come to a stop it will drop in between 1k and 400 and hover there. I Checked for vacuum leaks and could not find any. I think i just need a tune up because i have lost about 100 miles of gas mileage because i usally get 350 miles to a tank. If you guys think its something else please tell me. I got 164000 miles and i changed my spark plugs when i bought it.

Might be the o2 sensor is bad. That controlls the injector mixture at idle and cruise speed. Sounds like it failed on the rich side. Get someone to test it for you...

Depends on whether you wish to try this yourself and are pretty handy. They sell the socket to fit O2 sensors at any autoparts store. Its a special socket which will fit over the sensor itself , but has a slot in the side the wire(s) will fit through. You'd never get a closed socket over the sensor , for obvious reasons.

I have one of those and I find it to be too short and it damages the wires on the top of the sensor, try using a boxed end wrench, it works much better.

Most cars , such as DSM's , don't have room to put a box-end wrench over the sensor. Thats why the socket was made. I've never had a problem with the socket. If the wires were damaged , you did it wrong.
