With proper engine management and intercooling probably close to 600 HP. There is a member of the MR2 Board running 520 RWHP on the stock internals.

I am running on stick internals on the original motor (193,000 miles) and I am probably pushing close to 320 RWHP.

Hmm thats interesting to hear o_O I though 300whp was as far as it would 'go' before it started really dying down (I am really interested in mr2 lately just noticed AF has mr2 forum section )

These are things I heard many times over the year about the turbo MR2:

*The OEM ignition is only good for 300 HP
*The OEM fuel injectors (440s) are only good for 300 HP
*The stock internals are only good for 300 HP

At this point, Hyde has at least 300 RWHP with 193,000 miles on the drivetrain and is still ticking....using OEM ignition and OEM fuel

So what kind of engine stock internals must be replaced and upgraded to handle 600hp

[edit]

The more I find out about the MR2 the more I love it. Saw one just recently in real life, been seeing them to places I went more often because they catch my eye now.

It's the top of the list car I wish to buy now. Personally my goal is to restore a 1991 MR2 Turbo. Rebuild engine. Replace the 'usual stuff' (spark plugs, wires, 'plastic components' the usual). The most mods I would do is replacing/upgrading anything to do with airflow. Exhaust, air intake, anything of that sort. Then restore aesthetically. Keeping it stock in that way. My goal is a reliable street ride not a dragster

I am wondering what kind of problems does the car have? Just about everything I hear about the MR2 is good things ;_; (which is good!)

[edit 2]
I was thinking about the 91' since its the first second gen right? What about the other years. All opinions appreciated! I am in love with this car :/ Oh and how do bugs like entering the little side air intake holes?! o_O

[edit 3]
I used to think of a 92 Eagle Talon TSI as the car on the top of the list.. but I can't live with a burden and fear of crankwalk happening to me out of no where even by drived the car responsibly without ever racing at a stop light.... hmm

How about a 400+ hp 1.6L 16v 4AGTE, able to hit 186 mph. and run a 10.25 quarter mile. all located in a stock looking 1986 MR2.

It is located in South Africa

I am building the same motor, except using a high compression (9.5:1)20v 4agte. Can't wait. very soon... the engine comes together within the month. Oh, and there will be two of these cars in Central Virginia.
