Brake Light Problem

HELP!

I have a 1996 Mercury Mystique whose brake lights (including the high centered mounted one) will not go off at any time even after the key is out of the ignition. The car ahas an after market alarm system and I was wondering if that had anything to due with the problem. How do I repair this ?

Thank you,

Dennis Hershey

Dennis, a question, followed by a general suggestion: Did this problem crop up when the alarm system was installed? If so, I would double-check the installation.

Otherwise, I would remove the fuse which normally would provide power for the light circuit in question. If the lights extinguish, you then know the problem is in the brake light circuit itself...and I would take a close look at the brake light switch in that case.

Hope this helps!
