help, where did my power go this time.

ok i posted a while back asking about asking about difference between std and dx and now i'm discovering that i either have a bad engine or a bad cat back i get a loud puffing sound when i hit around 15 or 20mph in first gear and my power drops, that and it only gets worse the more i drive in a day got so bad once it took me 20 secconds to get to 30mph. please help should i return the jdm engine or could it have something to do w/ the conversion to dpfi from carberated.

hope you guys can help. please help help help.

Check your distributor? Sounds like you can't rev it high. It could mean a clogged cat. Check all your wirings on the dpfi to mpfi conversion. Check your timing also. Do you have a check engine light? If you do, check what codes its throwing.

I REALLY don't mean to be rude, but if the person told you it was a JDM fuel injected motor from a 4th gen Civic then they lied to you. Only the ZC and B16A were Fi, the other D15 engines ran ECU controlled twin-carbs and put out up to 100ps. Now if someone has bolted on Fi, then yes, you will have issues (unless I've missed a motor designation somewhere - possible as I've just finished an 800km drive). Take the motor back and tell them to stop dicking you about with BS motors.

yes

yes i know i got the carberated version my repair shop did the conversion to dpfi, and now i'm having problems out the ass. well i though it was my cat was bad but the muffler shop just told me that my engine needs a big tune up. i'm gonna try cleaning the fuel injectors and giving it a tune up next. if that doesn't work than i'm gonna start shooting people.
and if that doesn't work i'm gonna strap on a vtec head, can i do that before switching to mpfi? i know it's better but can i?

I've found out, and posted in another thread, the catalytic converter very very rarely clogs. I drove my car for months with it smoking like it was on fire, and i know the previous owner did so as well. I took the cat off about 3 days ago to replace it with an integra one (b18a swap, the flanges are differently angled).. it looked brand new inside.

I would think that a car that smokes like crazy would clog up the cat if anything, but it didnt. a "clogged cat" rarely happens anymore, maybe in the old school days of the "marble style" cats, but with the newer style, they rarely clog.

I added a few mods and lost power too

added an OBX intake manifold(much larger than original) and a gsr throttle body with a msd igniton and lost 1 full second in the 1/4 mile. Maybe time for me to upgrade the ECU?

P.S. set the fuel regulator to 45psi

Bottom line? You got ripped! I'm wondering if the Dizzy is correct for MPFi as it would have been for the Twin-Carb which may be running a different curve. Personally, I would have kept the twin-carbs and run the JDM carb ECU, 100 PS in stock trim and they DO respond to mods really well!

I dunno about swapping on a DOHC VTEC head - they are B series motors, not D and you will need all the VTEC ancilleries to actually get it to work. Yes you will need the MPFi. Take it back and tell them to fix it - seems like a cock-up from day one to me

Hey, if I paid good money for a turn-key transplant that didn't work, I wouldn't be sitting at the keyboard - I'd be demanding that they fixed their dodgy work.
