hey i recently got a 90 civic hb and i'm noticing that even w/ the new jdm d15b2 engine and an 88 dx trannie w/ new clutch it's a little sluggish. So i've been runing some experiments and i've noticed that my power curv seems to go flat around 4k rmp i'm not sure cause i still don't have a tach, but i'm wondering if it may be my air filter(still stock air intake), or if it's like the ecu, bcause i used to have an 88dx and it hauled, but my 90 as the manual calls it "STD" is sluggish at first i thought it was because of the engine cause when i first got it the engine was smoking worse than frieght train going uphill (dang i can't think of a better metaphor) but please help... my beloved replacement car is making me frustrated, do i have to rebuild the engine or is it being difficult. i hope i can fix it for under $100.

Could be your timing, or the fact that it's a d15....

I dont know, my D15B2 feels better at high rpms. But it's just sluggish because the motor is crap. My car is so slow that I accually thought something was wrong with it at first

clarification
i had the exact same car before i had an 88 DX and it halued ass i smoked manuel jettas more than once, and the power would increase greatly inface downshifting would slam me into the back of my seat, now i downshift and it feels like my engine is feving to the limit and my car doesn't care, could it be the fact that my old car had a blown headgasket and oil was increasing the combustion?

You needed the JDM Twin-Carb D15. 98bhp and they run out nicely to 5500 rpm whic his about what you want
My guess is that it's better than the single-carb or non-multipoint injected engines.

yes there is a difference. they look the same, but the STD has a crappier fuel map for better gas mileage. but its not like the DX ECU super high performance either :P

thanx much i guess that explains the fact that i used to be able to beat this one guy in my neiborhood even on my bad days but now he tools me every time, well do you know if it'll work if i drop in an 88 ecu into a 90 it's the car i got the trannie from.
