Gadangit...I really did it this time.

I knew my truck wouldn't last much longer but I was sure I could get a few more months out of it. Tranny's been pushin it for awhile now, transfer case has been shit for a long time. I didn't see the sense in putting any money in it as I was going to get a new truck here this spring.

Basically I got it stuck, bad in some snow. Had it in low range, with 285 Terra grapplers and the trannsmission and transfercase are shot too say the least after beating on it trying to get it out. Dad pulled it out with a caterpillar backhoe and said it was a pain in the ass to get it out with that. So I know the truck did good, damn Chevy's are always trying to outdo theirselves, haha.

The truck only moves in 1st gear and reverse, and you have to have the gear selector in 1st. 2nd, Drive, and Overdrive it does nothing but make noise. I'm almost positive I fucked up the chain in the transfer case, as I'm positive that's what's making the grinding/dragging noise. Not sure on the transmission as I can drive perfect in 1st gear, but if i put it above that it does nothing but grind and jerk.

The truck did a good job though, it would really go through some fucking snow...took snow up to the headlights to get her stuck. It made me proud but now I'm just plain depressed. Was really my first vehicle and all I've had far too many memories in it. I was hard on that truck and it took it well for awhile but I suppose it was time for it to go. So if anyone needs any parts of of a 92 Regular cab half ton speak up. I'm going to part it out as much as I can. I plan on keeping the engine and what not, the gauge cluster and a few other pieces, just to have. If ya want something speak up and name a price. This sucks.

Anyone else really feel they have more of a relationship with their trucks, other than just using them for transportation?

I like my stuff too.

Why not put a t-case and a trans in it and keep driving it?

Meh, the truck has a host of other problems too though. Paint sucks, body sucks, bumpers are trashed, engine is awesome but needs a few new parts as the service engine soon light comes on. It doesn't leak any oil or anything so I know that it's good, plenty of power. I just don't see putting any money into it becasue whenever I do something else goes wrong. Maybe it's just my luck or the truck is just old. I plan on buying a new truck though and a snowmobile during the off season, and I guess i'd rather have those than waste money on this truck. I'm not sure what I'll do with it yet but I'm not dropping any more money into it. It was a great truck though.

It is possible that the transfer case issue is the snap ring and not the chain. See http://www.drivetrain.com/gillies/Tcasesaver.html

The transmission on the other hand may be shot since you only have 1st and reverse.

Ok, exaclty what transfer case do I have? For some reason it was stuck in my head that I have a 205, or do I have a 241?

My 90 has the NP241 case. There should be a build tag attached to the back half of the case.
