Red face Stress Release

Ok. I am new here so I wont make a total ass outa myself but I want to release some stress:

Why do kids like the ones at my highschool spend 18g's on a decent japaneese sedan and then put another 8g's under the hood? Why not just use the extra 8g's tp get a more kick ass sportscar?

IMHO, I think thats a pure waste of good cash they could use to buy an old porsche 944 (about 7-8k in good condition) or 911 (18-24k in good condition) that can in my opinion beat the shit outa alot of modded ricermobiles.

Me and my dad spent 6g's on a 1974 porsche 911 and put 4g's into resto-ing it. I can dust off any of these ricemobiles at my school that they spent upto 30g's on. : WTF were they thinking?!?!?

Aighte im done, tell me your opinions on this theory

Peace

It's all about opinion. Honestly, do you really want everyone going out and buying porsche's? The ricers like the car that they own, good for them. I mean, cars aren't only about buying the absolute fastest one. They happen to prefer the car that they own. I am not saying that the car they have is one that I particularly like, but by the same token I wouldn't want everyone to suddenly like my car and go out and buy the exact same one. If everyone bought the same car, that car wouldn't be so cool anymore (think camaro, firebird). I agree that they could go faster for the money that they payed, but it's their money and if they want to rice up a rice mobile, who am I to stop them?

Because not everybody is as smart as you.

In all seriousness, people make their choices because.......................it is their choice. Their choices are not always good, but that's their fault. Why should that stress you? Why do you see car commercials every other minute? They want to influence people to buy their vehicles for reasons that they want you to see. Believe it or not, it works...why do you think ad execs make at least six figures a year?

Also, you might greatly enjoy your 10,000-dollar 1974 Porsche, as I know I would, but some people would find more comfort and glamour driving a 2001 model of a popular car (RSX, WRX, etc). That's their opinion.

Just as a point of reference, my 1992 Sentra cost me $1,800. Bone-stock as it is now, it is capable of running low 15's, as evidenced by the fact that I have beaten mid 15-second cars (Focus SVT, Civic Si). Another $1,600 for a replacement engine (240HP SR20DET, my stock one is an SR20DE), plus 600 dollars for the install, that's 4,000 dollars for a car that runs mid 13's. Another thousand in mods, It'll hopefully be in the 12's. That's half of what you've spent for your car, with less work on my behalf.

What I was trying to say with that last paragraph was...get off your high-horse man. There's always going to be a better deal, a faster car, etc. out there. Quit judging others and face the mirror.

.

I don't even know what the hell everyone else said but come on they don't put $8,000 its more like $800 tops for just a air intake and an exhaust can. Their highschool kids they don't have a lot of money, so that extra $8,000 doesn't exist.

well where i went to school all the guys used mommy and daddy's money... so in some cases it was at least 8 g's

in my case graduating last yr... most kids dont pop in more than $500-600 in their car. usually just exhaust (no, not even an intake...) and something a lil wacky and different to the taillights

carnutt... you can make a sentra into a 12 sec car with only 3 g's in mods?? thats kinda hard to believe... the sr swap alone is about 6 g's all together.

Wrong. My friend's shop is trying to sell me an SR20DET from a JDM Pulsar for 1,600 dollars. That motor runs about 227-240HP stock. He can also sell me a Nissan Bluebird DET for 900 bucks...cheaper, but with less initial HP at 180. The BB DET is actually a better deal, because it has the same turbo as the Pulsar DET, it only has less HP because it can't run as high a boost as the Pulsar, due to a lack of intercooler. For USDM swaps, you're probably going to get an FMIC anyways, so the top-mount stock intercooler won't be too useful.

The prices you're quoting is close to accurate, but that's for RWD versions of the DET, which is what your car needs. My Sentra's FWD. Plus that price for the RWD DET is probably for the newest generations of the motor, the ones with 227 to 240HP. The ones from the S13's came with 205.

Edit: Don't forget that my car weighs about 300 to 400lbs less than your car...dropping 180 to 240HP into my car can take it a LOT further than the same power into your car. Just dropping the 900 dollar, 180HP motor alone gives it about the same power-to-weight ratio as a 2001+ Mustang GT. We all know how cheaply a stock turbo'd motor can be made to produce real HP. Another plus is that the DET is proven to hold up to 500HP stock...so no need to spend on internals...unless you plan on going really zano.
