Exclamation 82-92 camaro specs needed please

i try to trade my car off on a camaro and i needed to get some backround info. right now he's thinkin about trading it.

it's a 82-92 looks close to 90's camaro RS w/ a 305 V8 under the hood and a 5spd tranny, color black with some small dragon decals along the bottom. looks REEEEAAAAL nice.

Pretty much any 3rd gen with a 305 is a dog. With the 5 speed though, you might be able get into the 15's . The 305's to look for are the 84-85 L69 H.O. 305 with the 5 speed & 3.73 rear or any TPI car(either the 305/5speed or the 350/auto). The TBI cars have speed limiters on them and they only go up to around 120mph. I think the 305 TBI in the 90's 3rd gens had 190HP.

Scott is wrong

Before my 305 ci engine blew up i got mine to go 135-140 mph and it still could have kept climbing. Not all have rev limiters and 305's arent dogs, there pretty quick engines.

Was yours a quadrajet, TBI or TPI ?

There isn't much aftermarket for the 305 compared to a 350. And by the time you put the money in a 305, you could've had a real fast 350.The 5 speed 305's are decent , but the auto's aren't that much fun and are s-l-o-w(by slow ,I mean 15-16 second 1/4 miles, maybe high 14's in a 305 TPI/5 speed). By the 80's or early 90's standards, 135-140 mph was decent , but today, Hondas can go that fast. For the same amount as a nice 90's RS, you can get a decent 87-92 350 TPI IROC/Z28.

The 305 block and the 350 block are pretty much identicle on the outside. If it works on a 350, it will probly work on a 305.

hey scott

Whats the point about the hondas that you are trying to make. They have 4 bangers and v-6 engines. They are also really light and most of them if not all are front wheel drive. How can you point out something that has no meaning and is in a different class like a jap trap. Next time think about what your talking about and get your facts straight.

Maybe YOU missed the point. In todays standards, 135-140 mph isn't that big of a deal anymore if a little 4 banger economy car can do it, correct? Wouldn't it suck cruising around in a 3300lbs 1990 RS with a 170HP 305 TBI and get beat by a Honda or a SUV ? When it comes to stoplight street racing, class means nothing. There are SUV's & minivans out there that are now quicker(and some faster) then RS Camaros . I had an 89 Formula with the 305 TBI, it was slow, just like most other TBI Fbodys. Maybe I'm wrong though, I guess if a Honda Pilot or Nissan Munaro pulled up next to you and you were in a RS and wanted to race, you'd say no because its not in the same class ? Or maybe if a Civic pulled up next to you and wanted to race, you'd say no because its lighter ? Yeah, that makes sense.
If you want a fast 3rd Gen , get one of these;
L69 305 with the 5speed & 3.73 rear , I think these were only between 84-85.
305 TPI 5 speed , any year
1985 305 TPI auto or stick. This had the vette cam in it & 215HP.
Stay away from any of the 1986 models, they all had less power then the other TPI cars(except for the handful of 350 cars made)
1987+ any 305 TPI/5speed or 350/auto
1989 TTA with the turbocharged 3.8 .

I gotta admit ricer's are fast, and they make alot of power for the size of the engine, but it doesn't impress me much. What does impress me is when something as heavy as a Camaro and with not a whole lot more power can go just as fast as a rice burner. I don't know maybe it's just that anoing pissed of bumble bee sound they make.

no joke man no joke

My 305 was a pretty quick car. It beat an Audi A8 so i wouldnt say that those engines are dogs at all and just because there heavier makes them better because just like 4onfloor said its awesome to see those rice rockets be beat by the american muscle of the camaro. Besides they do sound like crap, just like a pissed off bumble bee.

The Rice Cooker

I know all about the rice racers with little neon purple lights bouncing on the back two wheels. To those who like to chop up and sink money into jap rigs hey it's your thing go with it. But I like the heart and soul of a muscle car, and I'd like to just say a few words about the Camaro, which is a great looking and driving car. I have a 86' 5 speed Berlinetta with a V6, and I have beaten 3 series BMWs, Civics, and suv's. The car is geared for acceleration rather than top speed, which is much more practical. I've done 180 spins, powerslides, and I bet if you try that in an Echo you'll end up flipping the thing right over on it's back. The Camaro is low and has a nice long wheelbase on it. The parts are cheap, and the car is easy to work on and modify. Of course a car that is 10 years newer will outperform in some aspects, since time is on it's side. But $3000 is a down payment on a rice burner and the Camaro is pretty close if not better in a lot of things a low end Honda or Toyota can do. If not the money you saved can be used to make one heck of a hot rod, then let's see who wins a street race.

The Camaro is my shepherd,
I shall not want.
It maketh me burnout on black pavements,
It leadeth me beside busy freeways.
It restoreth my soul;
It leads me to the path of quickness
For its name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of rice,
I shall fear no turbo; for Torque art with me;
Thy rod and Thy piston, they comfort me.

Thou preparest a track before me
in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou hast anointed my bearings with oil;
My car overpowers.
Surely traction and victory shall follow me
All the days of my life
And I shall dwell in the house of the V8
Forever.
Amen.

power

1986 had the most factory rated power out of all 305s... I would go find a 350 camaro or trans am. Much better choice for the money!
