82-92 camaro front struts AND shocks????

I want to turn a 85 camaro into a circle track car and was getting some parts for it at the junkyard off a 83 Z28. I noticed it had struts and shocks in the front. I looked on mine and saw that the lower control arms have the mount holes for the shocks but there is no way to mount the top of the shocks.
Did the factory make any models with both struts and shocks or is that an aftermarket addon? Thanks.

Re: 82-92 camaro front struts AND shocks????

GM did some goofy things in the '80s while using up all the SLA (short long arm) stock before switching over to McPherson (coil-on strut) systems. The biggest one and most common was the use of The 'modified McPherson', a tower mounted strut, eliminating the upper arm, a lower control arm and an inboard coil spring. I think that 83 you're talking about si when they were really going coo-coo with stuff.

It figures. I think that would really be a bonus for dampening body roll to have a shock and strut on both front wheels. I think I'm going to drill a hole in the frame on top of the spring and add one anyway. Just need to find a shock that will fit. Thanks.
