Key/ignition problem

Earlier tonight we did what I like to call the "lunch tray" trick with my civic. Most of you probably know about this or have seen it. It's where you use trays on your back tires to allow somewhat of a drifting experience. I did it once, and my friend did it once (in my car) too. He decided to neutral drop it (because he's a damn idiot) but I don't think this is related to my problem.

After we had done this, I drove down the road to my friend's house. When I turned my car off, my key wouldnt turn back into the off position. It was stuck in Accessory Mode so I couldn't pull it out. I turned the car back on and off and it still didn't work. Finally, it came out. But no less than 5minutes later it did the same thing. After it finally came out the second time it never did it again all night (approx. 6 times without it sticking). My friend's g/f has a civic and she said hers has done it before. I thought maybe it had something to do with the "drifting experiment" but my friend insists that it was just coincedince. Any ideas?

push in. turn back. remove.

or clean your key.

and dont tell civic_runner how to do that....bad idea. silly, dangerous, and potentially very destructive to the car. bad bad idea. honestly, you kids these days!

push in, turn back, remove key?

are you trying to tell me how to turn off my car? i've had this car for 2 years, i'm pretty sure i've mastered taking the key out. heath, ill show you one day when we do it again. it's not that bad for your car if you do it safely and you don't do it every day. they do it at vtec atlanta meets all the time...

emerge, Im just screwin with you. That sounds awfully weird, specially since it only happened a few times. cleaning the key couldnt hurt though. friend of mine had his full of crap oine time and that gave hime ignition problems. but it was pretty nasty, he droped it in mud er something and just wiped it off on his shirt, didnt get the grooves or teath real well.

by any chance have you used a copy of the key made at like a home depot or something? I don't really know the physics behind it, but i've heard of a similar effect from friends who've given their friends a copy of the key (for when they lock theirs in the car). My guess is it messes with the tumblers a little bit. After a week or so though of using the regular key, however, it went back to normal. So maybe just let it ride for a little bit and see what happens.

Nah, I have the original stock key. Apparently it's some defect with Hondas. Anyways, I did the drifting experiment again tonight because it rained and the grounds were wet, which makes it work even better. Luckily, we had a video recorder on hand this time. The videos came out great! Heath, hit me up and maybe I can show you it. Hopefully I can convert the video to be viewed on the computer so I can link you all to it. If i ever figure it out, I'll post it a new thread.

On second thought, maybe it would be dangerous to tell Heath how to do it, he's not such a good driver, lol. J/K.
