Key ignition problem.

The problem is that my key will not turn to the start position, it will turn it a bit but it will not turn to the start position --- it's more like / position.

This all started when i got into my car from school today and the key was not put in right but the car started. So i decided to turn off the car and re-put the key in so there wouldn't be any problems. But the key would no longer turn properly. I had to keep turning the key for around 2 minutes and finally the key turned and the car started perfectly. I got home turned of the engine and tried to restart it and once again the key would not get passed the 3rd position (Where you can run all your electrical stuff like stereo, wipers, ect) would not turn.

The key is good and I also tried using my spare key and I get the same results. After moving the steering wheel left and right and turning the key the car sometimes starts faster than just turning the key by itself. The battery is also fully charged and the wires are connected tight so that not an issue.

If any of you have some suggestions I would appreciated. My car has always worked fine except for today. And I don't know how to make the key turn like it used to =\.

Thank you for your time,
EBC

Re: Key ignition problem.

tumblers in the ignition...need rebuilt or replaced, I'd go to the dealer for this one, so that you can either re-key the other locks to match, or get the ignition switch mechanicals replaced.

I use to have a car with a bad ignition switch, you could start it and remove the keys, or not use the keys at all, as long as the wheel wasn't locked.

Re: Key ignition problem.

Yep, you were right again Mr. Hotbug I don't know how you do it. Only problem now is that the mechanic activated my Anti-theft lock (Passlock) so my engine will shutoff lol. But it's getting fixed so it should be cool.

The guy tried starting my car with a screwdriver and had the key in the off position so alarm activated =(.

Thanks again =D,
Insany
