Vtec???

Just wonder when is the VTEC engagement in a 94 Integra VTIR. I reckon its around 5400 rpm, but when i pushed my car to VTEC range recently, i found it to be nothing significant (except the scream of the vtec which is of coz very nice). The car seems sluggish as compared to my friends civic EK4 vtir which absolutely screams and speeds forward at the VTEC engagement. Coz i havn't actually test driven any other integra vtir so i was wondering if anyone with a teg can explain how his/her vtec engagement is like. Does the car actually scream and acelerate quicker, is it like a boost or something. Thanks.

The VTiR 'teg's B18C has primary and secondary engagement points (Quyen is better on this - she owns one) and is a lot smoother and torquier than the B16A powered SiR and VTiR Civics which are all or nothing at VTEC cut-in. It also has to do with the throttle management of the teg's vs the Civics. I know that my Civic acts like an animal unleashed at VTEC engagement point, it's nowhere near as refined as Q's VTiR teg which just powers away. 'tegs are a bit heavier too and tend to have a tighter chassis to control the power.

The reason you cant "feel" the VTEC though is maybe you are looking for a turbo "rush". If so, check my sig for an explanation

Nice post pete

as Pete said...the B18c is a bit more refined.

Primary engagement comes through at 4500 rpm...and secondary at about 6200rpm. You will feel it stronger at the higher rpm.

DIFFERENT FROM TYPE R THOUGH

My vtec does kick in (at least it sounds really pronounced) at 5800. But i was in my friends JDM type R, When VTEC engaged in his car, i felt a mild surge, a sudden jump in power to be more specific. The type r sort of went into overdrive and there was a second surge of power. No such thing in my car, just more torque and a lot of noise. Shouldn't the vtec engagement be similar in my car? Could there something wrong with the vtec, i redlined the car till the speed limited cut me off at 8200 rpm. I did this a couple of times and nope, i didn't get the kick back feeling i had in the type r.

Ummm... VTiR and ITR are two wholly different cars. An ITR's engine management is set up for power as opposed to a VTiR set up for refined driving. You can't compare the two. One is a road car and the other a racegoing road car.

HAHAHAHA....lol

grumpee me thinks you are a bit naive when it comes to integras....

as pete said you can't compare the two.....

the vtir has a gradual flow to the vtec. It doesn't pin you back in your seat or anything..you have to remember its not like you've got a turbo or anything...or you sitting in a STI WRX or anything.
