Who's changed their factory radio?

I swapped my factory cd player for a Pioneer unit with bluetooth capability so I wont have to wear that idiotic ear piece;it's illegal to talk on a cell phone and drive here.
I bought PAC brand modules for the Onstar retention and steering wheel controls because I got a pretty decent deal on them.Install was pretty straight foreward for the OS-4 module (Onstar one) but I'm having a bitch of a time with the steering wheel control module.It is the SWI-RS module and is recomended for this truck and stereo brand and as far as the install and initial programming as long as you read all the directions and take your time it's not that difficult.The issue I'm having is that my module wont retain it's programming meaning I programmed it the other night for the 5th time and it worked fine,the next day I got in the truck and none of the SW buttons worked correctly.
I don't know what's going on here it's almost as if I have the wrong module but it can't be because I verified on the PAC web site it is for the 2008 Silverado with the base cd player.I have programmed this thing 5 times and I can't get it to work right.
Has anyone else ever run across this?I'm still waiting to hear back from PAC customer service but I thought I'd try here to see if anyone else has had this kind of trouble.

It sounds like to me that the wire that supplies power to the unit's memory is only hot when the key is on. You'll have to verify you're getting power all the time. For the newer vehicles, remember that the body control modules allow some curcuits remain energized for a short time after key off, so what tests okay may not stay hot after 10-15 minutes.

The modules I have for the stereo swap are both PAC brand so that makes it much easier in that the OS-4 unit has the wire harness already hard wired in for the SWI module.All I had to do was plug it in and program it.

I thought I had it figured out earlier today after talking to an electronics shop tech that deals with car audio.He told me that only one function can be programmed to a particular button,meaning I can't program the factory steering wheel control buttons to do more than one thing which is what I was trying to do.If I program the arrow up and down buttons for the tuner pre sets up and down I can't program them to control the cd track up and down as well,it's one or the other.
I believe this is where I am running into trouble,I'm trying to program more than one function to a certain button.
The factory Silverado steering wheel stereo buttons work fine with the factory cd head unit,there's obviously something somewhere that differentiates the tuner function from the cd function when pressing the same button.What I mean is the up and down arrows control the radio station pre sets or change the cd track up and down.This won't work with an aftermarket steering wheel control module,it has to be one or the other.
This is really aggravating.

Got it sorted out finally,it was just a matter of not getting the swi module set to the correct "version" number.Even though I tried this before for some reason something wasn't going through right but now it's fine.
For those that do this in the future and use PAC brand modules specifically the SWI-RC program it to version 2 and leave the brown loop in tact.If you cut the brown loop like the directions say then all the buttons program to volume up for some odd reason.
