2000 winstar

My 150000 mile 2000 windstar keeps burning up coils. It all started when it started to run rough. My CEL had been on for 50,000 miles. I took it in and they replaced plugs, wires and the coil. A week later my check engine light was flashing and the car was running very poorly. I took it back and they said the coil they gave me was bad. they also put in a new computer and replace a broken valve spring. A week later the check engine light was flashing again. I took it back and they replaced the coil again. I m reluctant to pick it up if something is burning out coils. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is happening?

Re: 2000 winstar

The only two things that come to my mind are that either the wires are bad as well or the plugs weren't properly gapped at the moment of installation. Both situations would cause a higher resistance which will stress the coil pack and cause it to wear faster.

Make sure the bracket where the coil is mounted is free of corrosion; the coil should remain grounded to this bracket for proper operation.

Oscar.

Re: 2000 winstar

Hopefully, they used the correct spark plug for your vehicle.
The wrong plug can pull too much current....burning out the coil(s).
The plug should be a double platinum plug.......1 electrode with platinum and 1 ground tab with platinum enhancement.
Multi-prong plugs have been reported by users here as causing problems.
Your replacment coil should last a long time.
