intermitent whistling noise

I get this intermitent whistling noise coming from the rear drivers side. Sounds like a coffee pot whistling on a stove. After I drive about ten or twelve miles it goes away and diminishes into a hissing noise. Is it possible the fuel pump is failing? I have a 2005 trailblazer with 105000 miles. Thanks for any input.

Re: intermitent whistling noise

robertb,

I know you're looking for technical input, which unfortunately I can't hep with. However, if I can check on recall information for you, or if you were going to consult your dealership on the whistling noise, please send me a private message with the last 8 digits of your VIN so I can check into my systems here for any information I can provide.
Best,
Sarah

Re: intermitent whistling noise

You need to have someone get under the truck to pinpoint this noise, maybe up on a lift safely of course, bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, leaking air lines if it has level control in the rear.

Gauge the door and weather stripping with a piece of paper.
Try to clean door gasket with Armor all cleaner.

Re: intermitent whistling noise

Thanks for getting me your VIN. I checked and am not seeing any open recalls on your Trailblazer, nor are there any warranties remaining on your vehicle due to mileage. I'm sorry about this - have you had any luck checking into things under the hood yourself? Let me know if you decide to work with a dealership.

Best,
Sarah

Re: intermitent whistling noise

I appreciate you checking into that for me. I am taking it in today to a dealership.
The sound is coming from underneath toward the back. I got a hunch it is the fuel pump.
Thanks again.

Re: intermitent whistling noise

hi sarah
I could not get the vehicle to reproduce the noise.
The tech started it up and it sounded fine. As I mentioned in my original post, the sound goes away or diminishes after driving 12 miles or so. The dealership is about 15 miles away. So I hung around for another hour for the vehicle to cool off and maybe make the noise again and never did. So I guess I'll just monitor the situation for now.
The service advisor was real nice, he didn't charge me. Thanks for asking, have a nice weekend.

Re: intermitent whistling noise

Sorry that the visit didn't result in a diagnosis on this, but it sounds like it was an otherwise good experience. You have a good weekend too!
