Maximum tire size for '67 Imperial stock rim

Hello,

I have a '67 Chrysler Imperial that I am re-powering with a stroked 440 and I while I have some room under the fenders I am not certain how wide a tire I can mount on the stock rims. I read that the stock tire was a 9.15-15 and I currently run P235/70-15's. Is there a database somewhere that might help answer this question short of being able to measure the rim directly?

Thanks

No general data base, the wheels are probably 6" wide, based on that you have widest tire on there now. You could check Coker or Diamond Back's website for wheel width recommendations.

According to the Old Timers Guides published by Tire Guides, the original rims were 6" wide.

Re: Maximum tire size for '67 Imperial stock rim

Results for anyone interested. The stock rim was indeed 6" wide. Searching for a wider rear tire with about the same OD lead me to a P275/60R-15 which requires a minimum of a 7-1/2" wide rim. The bolt pattern turned out (best I can figure) to be a 5x5" or 5x127mm. The backspace (depth of rim from hub face to inside edge) is 4" and a smidge. While Tire Rack was great for rubber they didn't have such a rim in stock. Summit Racing showed a slew of options in their catalog and had the one I chose in stock.
