Ferrari F40 Competizione

He AF!
I have decided to try something a little different for me. I am getting myself into a race car to see how it goes. So after speaking with rx7king on ideas for the next project we came up the Competizione. I'm not sure I'll go with the decals yet and what color to use. After seeing Kustov's builds I'm inspired to put as much detail as I can afford haha.

Here's a start

Among the 1st thing I will do is replace the simple turbos with Scale Production's

Re: Ferrari F40 Competizione

Looking good so far! Beware of the engine cover fitting, I test fitted mine & it seemed good but when you attach the body to the chassis with the pins on the rear wheel housings it changes the shape & your engine cover wont fit / or sit corretcly. Ive been told its best to remove the pins from the body & just use glue

Re: Ferrari F40 Competizione

Hello AF!
Here's a quick update. I got the body painted this past few days, along with interior kevlar, chassis cf and some engine work. As of this moment I'm contemplating a slightly driven look. We'll see. So here we go

I do have a question. Are the wheel wells CF as well?

Re: Ferrari F40 Competizione

Looks to be just a flat black in the pics I found. I thought the body was painted where are those pics?

Re: Ferrari F40 Competizione

Hello AF! Just wanted to post a few pics now that I have finished my kevlar,cf and clear coat. I used Dupont 2k clear of course. I ran into some issues and I am not sure why. Maybe the rain didn't help. I also wetsanded the hood between coats and still ended up with some orange peel. Nothing a little elbow grease can't fix. So here we go..

Comments and thoughts are welcome. 'Til next time

Re: Ferrari F40 Competizione

Hi,

the resin turbos are a real improvement.

The gloss on the carbon parts ist too much IMO, IŽd give some (semi-)flat clear over them

I agree sportrace02. I just shot everything to seal it. I will shoot semi on it after. The chassis cf will either get wet sanded to dull it of semi clear. Thanks for the input

Great progress! Btw, which CF decal did you use? It looks great for this scale!

Re: Ferrari F40 Competizione

Hello AF!
I received the items I ordered and was moved to get a little work in. It's slower progress than what I'm used to, but a full time job does that I guess
I started to polish the body after wet sanding with 1500 grit paper. The seats were sprayed with Scale Motorsport's texture paint, which I will later paint red (maybe). I purchased Tech Pro's braided lines and the are amazing. Thanks to Mr Kustov for the tip on his page.

Here we go.

I like Top Studio's shock absorber set

I wet sanded the chassis and slightly polished the red paint to give it the worn/driven look I'm striving for. Some of the Cf has glossy spots left which I hope adds a touch of realism

The roof has been polished twice and the rest is in progress.

A closer inspection shows that the hood still has swirls.

The true test comes by taking the kit outside, which makes swirls and scratches more visible.

That is all for now. Thanks for looking and commenting. Off to build now....
