Smile ABS Diagnostics - ELM327 help!

I was thinking of ordering the ELM327 diagnostic tool to diangose an intermittent bad speed sensor that causes the abs to kick in between 1-3 mph. Does anyone know if I can use it to tell me which wheel is triggering the fault? Which program would I use to do it on my PC?
Thanks tons!

Re: ABS Diagnostics - ELM327 help!

There are several PC-based scanners which will allow you to retrieve codes and data. One of them is AutoTap, and it requires that you use an adapter cable with the hardware necessary for the communication protocol used on your vehicle. A common serial interface probably won't work without the hardware. I have an old copy of the software and basic adapter, and it was more expensive than some of the modern scanners which have multi-vehicle and multi-system capability.

Whatever you do, you will need to be able to scan the EBCM as well as the PCM. Many scanners do only the PCM. A fully-functional scanner will allow you to scan the PCM, ABS/EBCM/TCM, SIR (air bag) controller, BCM, and Transmission Codes.

Re: ABS Diagnostics - ELM327 help!

I had the same issue, I got a can of electrical contact cleaner. Pulled all the connectors at the wheel hubs, squirted both halves, let dry. Pushed them back on, if it still happens, do the same and as above , except put vaseline all over the connector and reseat(only the front). BTW you can do All your connectors under the hood with the contact cleaner, no vaseline, including the car computer connector. Follow directions when removing the computer connector. It's like a tune - up

Re: ABS Diagnostics - ELM327 help!

Blue Bowtie - You recommended auto tap. I was looking for free software.....do you know any programs that I could download free in order to see individual wheel speed data? I simply need it to diagnose this one thing and I assume auto tap costs money? I know there are a lot of them that are freeware out there?

La1 - Thats good advice. I'll give it a try. What exactly did you buy? Electrical contact cleaner? And what do you mean by cleaning things under the hood?

Thanks guys.

You are not going to find anything for free that reads ABS data.......you'd be hardpressed to find anything that reads PCM data for free, either....

Re: ABS Diagnostics - ELM327 help!

There are plenty of free tools out there. For example, Torque Lite is a free android application for OBD scanners. I have it on my cell phone and tablet PC and it works great. I am just trying to see if the $5 version will read other computer data such as ECBM/ABS as well TCM and whatever I can get my grubby little hands on.
