Ticking noise and weight of oil
Hi guys,
I have an 2001 Isuzu rodeo and it's currently on 140k. I hear ticking noise when it's on idle, I've been using castrol oil at ez-lube oil service since I got this car and planning to do oil change by my self and use better quality oil such as mobil 1 synthetic, what kind of oil I should use for my 2001 Isuru Rodeo V6 3.2lt? I live in los angeles, it's not crazy not in here even summer time barely hits 80F, winter is around 70F. I'm thinking on 5-30 or 10-40 but which one would you guys recommend? |

Re: Ticking noise and weight of oil
Either weigth should be fine. I like 5-30. I have 162000 miles on my 1997 3.2. Went to Mobile 1 synthetic about 40000 miles ago because of ticking. The synthetic makes the tickng go away for about 4000 miles. I feel that it si worth the cost.

Will see how it goes. How often should I change full-synthetic mobil 1 oil? |

Fram
you know that filter is one of the worst to get? if it was tough guard, then it'll be ok... napa oil filter or even walmart supertech's is better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEjpdcCn8jQ |

I'm planning to change first synthetic oil before 3k mileages but what about second oil change? my friend told me I could drive with same synthetic oil at least for 5-6k mileages. |

Re: Ticking noise and weight of oil
Mileage wise 5-6000 miles on synthetic will be fine. What I usually go by is when it starts ticking loud again and its been my experience that is usually before 5-6000 miles. Also after I change it out it takes 50 or so miles before it quiets down again.

mind you, the ONLY FRAM oil filter that does use METAL ENDCAPS is the Xtended Guard™ their website doesn't mentioned that; I have no idea why??? ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecpkv...4&feature=plcp jump to ~9:35 and you will see the metal endcaps on this filter only ![]() Fram only uses it on this premium filter at a premium price because metal cost more $ than the cardboard/ engineered fiber endcaps.... that's the bottom line other brands, like wix, purolator, bosch, already have their STANDARD filters made with METAL endcaps! at a lower price to boot... http://fram.com/products/oil_filters...elect_region=1 you'll see that their website doesn't even mentioned the metal endcaps. nevertheless, go with a decent brand filter along with your synthetic or semi synthetic oil. since I change my oil by myself & it's very easy to do, i'll sometimes use cheap oil and filter for up to 5000 miles... |

Re: Ticking noise and weight of oil
I have 270,000 on my 97 3.6L. have the same ticking which i'm told is a sticking lifter. 5-30 made a huge improvement but living in the Phoenix inferno, i'm scared to run it in the summer.
