Smile 1992 Transport window not working

Hello all. This is my first time posting a thread. Pass and driver side windows have not been working. I replace all switches, fuses, circuit breakers, relays and still no change. The only thing that makes these windows work is hooking up to a battery and they work fine. Now driver side circuit test with 12 volt tester (light) comes on when i touch the each wire going into the window motor and I'm not pressing up or down on window switch. If I press the switch button for up and down the light stays lit on both wires. 2: When I touch the tester to pass side wires connected to motor and press up or down the light will come on and off for each wire touched. I'm thinking its a grounding problem on drivers side or a short somewhere. I have done many repairs on this vehicle but this one got me stumped. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Re: 1992 Transport window not working

You're probably right. It seems you know how the circuit works but just in case
www.avigex.ca/xport/pwrwindows.jpg
All wires going to motors from driver switch should read zero when switches not pressed on. If you have voltage, it has to come either from stray conduction through the switch or through the switch lamps..if interior lights are turned on or at night and if ground B is lost....Contact B at the driver side switch should read zero in all conditions....maybe a fraction of a volt when a window actually moves up or down.
I'm looking for an existing thread about the location of the grounding post..under the floor carpet....and will post a link asap.
IN the mean time, test a separate ground connection to contact B (black wire) and see what happens.

Re: 1992 Transport window not working

Not sure if I am reading you right.....

If you disconnect the harness to the motor, and attach a test light to the harness, the light should be off...when you press up OR down on the switch, it should light(all the switch is doing, is reversing the polarity of the voltage when completing the circuit)....is that how you are testing it?

There should be NO POWER TO THE HARNESS, when the switch is not pressed.......Which switches have you replaced?

Wink Re: 1992 Transport window not working

Tech II: Harness are connected to window motor while I have the test light probe in through the wire insulation to touch wire. Its those kind of testers that you stab through the wire insulation. The driver side has power in both wires at all times and when I press up or down power button there is no change. It just stays on. Both windows switches were replaced. I'm going out now to try some other test suggested by LMP to see what happens.

Re: 1992 Transport window not working

Ok, I used an alternate ground source for connection B and the window goes up and down but in reverse order. Press to go up and goes down and vice a versa. Sure got me excited. lol But forgot to rehook the passenger side wires but will do in a bit but I just go sidetracked. BRB
