BMW V10 Engine

Has anyone got any idea why BMW decided to drop the V10 engine? Seems they are going back to a V8 with Supercharger in place of the V10.
Looks like a big waste of a development program, unless it could not be stretched to give more power (unlikely). Was it a case of to complicated or unreliability problems? (not that I know of any).

Re: BMW V10 Engine

official : emissions and fuel con.
unofficial : V8 is a lot cheaper than V10
new F10 M5 has platform from 7er, gearbox from M3 and tuned engine from X6 50i!
old E60 m5 had its own platform, own gearbox and own engine + e60 platform was more expensive to produce than current f10
